• Is my computer overheating?

For a while I've been having this problem with my laptop, the screen has been going gray when I play games sometimes. I bought a laptop cooler and sent it to get fixed but it's still doing it. What's going on? My laptop is an asus g73jh.
maybe we won't know until you tell us the temps (use HWMonitor)
I'll get that but do I need to see the when it's messing up? Because it happens randomly and everything freezes when it happens.
Any indication of temperature is fine.
[img]http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm474/DaveLife25/temperature.png[/img] [editline]5th September 2011[/editline] The results might have been skewed though since I just tried cleaning any dust out of the laptop.
They look fine, but that cpu, if that's at idle, maybe not.
Oh crap, what can I do about that?
looks fine for a laptop, you can take it to a local pc shop and get some Arctic Silver thermal past put on it for decently cheap, should drop the temps 10c on a laptop
I dont think this is overheating but if you want to make sure: Download prime95 and run that for 10 minutes whith HW monitor on. Post results. Do the same with Furmark and HW monitor.
I contacted asus tech support and since I sent it back only three weeks ago they said that they're guessing the monitor is causing it. Is this actually something that cna happen? The only thing wrong I've noticed with my monitor is that it has a few burnt out pixels.
Yeah the monitor could've been broken. Glad you got it sorted out.
I need the computer for school though so I want to do some tests to see if i actually do need to send it away. [QUOTE=taipan;32148932]I dont think this is overheating but if you want to make sure: Download prime95 and run that for 10 minutes whith HW monitor on. Post results. Oh I misread, I believed you had sent it already and expected it to be back in 3 weeks. To confirm if it's really the screen, take a screenshot with printscreen while the lines are showing and see if the lines persist in the screenshot.
Well that's something else, I used a vacum to clean out the fans and I haven't had the issue since, so could it have just been dust build up? [editline]7th September 2011[/editline] Actually I was just talking to someone about this, he thinks there was loose wiring and me vacuuming snapped the wires back into place. What do you guys think?
I think it was dust buildup and vacuuming it got rid of some of the dust wires moving about is a load of rubbish.
At this point I really have no idea what to do, should I just send it back?
Just blast the vent with a can of compressed air and be done with it.
Are you running on battery when it does that?
No
