The IDF announced on Sunday that it was setting up a field hospital at the Erez border crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
The field hospital was set to begin functioning at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

The IDF said that it will serve mainly women and children and will include a delivery room.
Meanwhile, dozens of wounded IDF soldiers were brought from the fighting in Gaza to a number of hospitals across Israel on Sunday morning.

“It's like killing them with one hand and treating them with the other,” the source said, adding that “maybe there will be interior security from the Shin Bet [Israel Security Agency] who will start asking people question about the armed resistance. This is one of the reasons that would prevent people from going and asking for medical treatment from the IDF.”
Popular opinion in Gaza is in principal opposed to accepting Israeli aid, he explained, asking why Palestinians should accept help when the IDF is “killing my children with internationally prohibited artillery shelling that spreads millions of deadly nails that kill every human being it faces.”
You would be a moron to refuse offered medical treatment regardless of the source.

You can't blame the Palestinians for distrusting them though.
Jewbie Trap
I fully expect for the IDF to wait for the place to fill up before they fire artillery at it.
Come on, IDF isn't a cartoon villain.
Just a band of nazi terrorists.
Field Hospital huh? So basically it's a camp. Seems very suspect and I can't put my figure on it but I remember something like this happening before. But what could it be?
You would be a moron to refuse offered medical treatment regardless of the source.
It's not so easy to bend the knee if there's nothing left of your friends and family.
I fully expect for the IDF to wait for the place to fill up before they fire artillery at it.
hamas were hiding missiles under it we swear
You would be a moron to refuse offered medical treatment regardless of the source.
I can think of a couple of reasons
Imagine if members of your family died due to bombs or IDF soldiers. Why would you go get help from those who killed your brother/cousin/mother/etc? You might also know people that are Hamas or are close to Hamas, in which case the Shin Bet will know. They might detain you or even withhold treatment to force your hand. You also have no guarantee for your safety, even if you are squeaky clean. You are basically trusting the IDF to not abuse their power, which is a questionable gamble considering their track record and how trigger-happy and virulently racist certain Israeli soldiers are.
Actually, isn't it strange Israel is suddenly offering medical aid to Gazans after purposefully targeting hospitals and health centers? If they actually cared, perhaps they should reconsider their "let's bomb a bunch of critical civilians targets then scream HAMAS HAMAS HAMAS until people believe us" strategy.

I'm getting the feeling that they're trying to backtrack on their poor image with going into Gaza. And it's not going to work.

You realize you're complaining about Israel opening a hospital?
Let's see how things go. This looks like a major step in the right direction to peace.

So Israel has to be doing a PR move since they aren't acting like comic supervillains? Grow up.

You mean that Israel has to be doing a PR move since they aren't acting like comic supervillains? Grow up.
Where the hell did I say they were supervillians?
The reason I suggested that was, they knew they were going to march into Gaza. They knew there would be a lot of death and injuries. But only after now they open up a field hospital for the injured? If they actually cared, they would have opened it up sooner.
Regardless, I hope this hospital helps many people that are hurt, regardless of their politics.

You're kidding me, right? This is your 'evidence' that Israel is doing this for PR?
I mean, not only can you really not open a hospital in a day, but it's also just obnoxious. "These guys can't do anything out of empathy, so it has to be a PR move!" seems like what you're trying to say.

For one, I did not say this was "evidence". For another, I did not say that Israel is solely doing this for a PR movie. I said I was "getting a feeling" that it is. It's just a theory I tossed out into the thread. Are you so blind in defending Israel that you have to attack even posts that only toy with the idea that they are not immaculate?
I can totally understand the distrust. Hospitals were bombed and people died, so obviously there will be doubt. Its sad for both sides. Palestinians lost family members, and the Israelis (might) be genuine about helping them.

Fairly certain that this hospital will be staffed by Israelis and so isn't at risk to be blown up. Unless you meant doubt about the people themselves, not what the place will be?
How much do you guys wanna bet that Hamas is going to bomb this place in a matter of minutes?
its like getting counselling for PTSD from the guy who gave you PTSD
Fairly certain that this hospital will be staffed by Israelis and so isn't at risk to be blown up. Unless you meant doubt about the people themselves, not what the place will be?
I've a feeling even if it were managed by the Israeli staff, they still might think that they'll try to poison them or murder them or something like that. I mean if I were a Palestinian who lost someone in this conflict, it'll probably be another reason for them to avoid such a place. The distrust on the both sides is just too damn high. I'm pretty sure even if they were given other forms of aid, SOME MIGHT still think its laced with poison or there's explosive in them.
You can't blame the Palestinians for distrusting them though.
Still, they don't exactly seem to be in a situation where they can afford to pick and choose whose medical aid they do and don't want. If the Israeli's are offering to assist then there's certainly a better chance taking it than leaving it.
I fully expect for the IDF to wait for the place to fill up before they fire artillery at it.
why would they fire on their own people working at the camp? don't be stupid.

Actually, when the IDF started the operation in Gaza the idea was mostly to destroy as many rockets and launchers and force a favorable truce.
Since Hamas has been resisting anything resembling a truce so far, while at the same time the IDF found out how many tunnels Hamas built into Israel, the operation goals expanded into holding the area containing all the tunnel exits, finding and demolishing them all.
Once it was clear the operation is going to be taking longer the IDF started working on the field hospital. IIRC there were items about work beginning almost a week ago, and you may notice the original Jpost article is from the 20th.
Also Hamas started shelling the place almost immediately.

This isn't that unusual, by the way. The IDF usually opens field hospitals when they have to treat a lot of wounded. For example, they opened a field hospital on the Syria border to treat Syrians wounded in the civil war, who often cross the border to seek medical help.
Hamas isn't the one telling civilians to seek shetler in specified buildings and then blowing the shit out of them afterwards ;)
No, Hamas is the one that's holding people at gunpoint and forcing them to wait for missiles to hit them.

See, Monkah. This is how to properly reply to my post. Now my thought I had is disproved, not retorted to with "Stop calling Israel a supervillian".
They bombed 3 shelters, so I don't blame any Palestinians who refuse to go to this one.

I actually know the lady who is in charge of the field hospital they set up at the border. We're from the same division who set up field hospitals on the syrian border before this whole thing started. if it's anything like the one they set up near syria then the civillians that'll pass through there are in good hands.

Yeah, just like they bombed that UN emergency shelter filled with civilians, oh wait, that was IDF.
Yeah, just like they bombed that UN emergency shelter filled with civilians, oh wait, that was IDF.
As far as I've seen, nobody knows who's shell it was that hit the shelter, that both the IDF AND Hamas were firing munitions in the area and it could have been either one.
There might be new evidence now, but as far as I've seen, it's not sure who it was....

Every source I've seen says it was an IDF shelling.
there wouldn't need to be a field hospital if they hadn't blown people to smithereens
