French government is considering to “Forbid free and shared wi-fi connections” during a state of emergency. This comes from a police opinion included in the document: the reason being that it is apparently difficult to track individuals who use public wi-fi networks.
The latter piece of legislation, meanwhile, says the government is considering “to block or forbid communications of the Tor network.” The legislation, according to Le Monde, could be presented as early as January 2016.
2001: Saudi Terrorists attack New York, US attacks Iraq.
2015: Terrorists coordinate attack through un-encrypted SMS, France attacks privacy.
:mystery:?
Yay for kneejerk reactions
What if spectre was right?
Does this mean just no exit nodes in france?
Gotta keep soccer moms happy
So, if the French really wanted to block Tor, they might have to consider a model similar to the Chinese regime
The CIA used DPRK torture manuals and French Intelligence uses PRC censorship techniques.
The west should stop learning from the authoritarian communists.
Yeah.. good luck with that.
Doesn't TOR have bridge relays which are in place in case of situations exactly like this?
As if someone wouldn't make a Tor alternative.
If no one can communicate, then no one can collude.

I think you are forgetting the most anonymous tool of them all, PSN.
Please france, don't do what the U.S did. We made a lot of mistakes and regret them.
The stupid thing about this is they used complete unsecured communications to plan the attack, this is just capitalizing on a tragedy to push an agenda
this is just capitalizing on a tragedy to push an agenda
The kinds of people who would use a tragedy against ordinary people to push an agenda against ordinary people... Sickening.

If the agenda was related to the actual event it'd be fine.
never waste a good existential crisis to push your agenda

at least here in the US we're only trying to outlaw the encryption which runs the backbone of our modern digital infastructure, and marginally protects us from the near constant cyber attacks from third world hackers
Yeeah because who needs privacy I mean if you are not a criminal you have nothing to hide right?
This kind of kneejerk and paranoid reaction was expected after the terrorist attacks, but I did not expect it to go to this level.
As if someone wouldn't make a Tor alternative.
There is I2P, which is supposedly better than Tor.
From Russian government: Good luck with that, lol
Never let a good tragedy go to waste.
From Russian government: Good luck with that, lol
Hell Iran can't even do it and they've got like one node for the entire country
Terrorists use un-encrypted, public communication lines?
SHUT IT ALL DOWN INCLUDING SOMETHING THEY DIDNT EVEN USE.
There is I2P, which is supposedly better than Tor.
As Matthew0505 said, I2P is a bit different of a think than Tor. Something like Tails utilizes both, though.
They will just use an alternative until encryption is illegal .. and when that happens, they'll just hide their message in a sentence.
Just like the movies: "..I repeat, the potato has arrived".
It's the same with computer security, they'll always find a way.
Please france, don't do what the U.S did. We made a lot of mistakes and regret them.
uh what?
Please, explain this because I am eager to see your reasoning for this statement. Just about everything France has done so far would be unconstitutional, so they've already done more than even dipshits like Diane fucking Feinstein want to make happen.
You can't stop technology, only try to slow it down.
Meh, what a half assed measure. How about a small remote-controlled powder actuated tool installed in the skull. That way the state can "deactivate" you, in case a person goes rogue.
Jokes aside now, the french government is going a bit overboard with this extension of the state of emergency and this proposed legislation. I'm not saying that doing these kind of things isn't useful in fighting terrorism, but whats the price the people is going to pay in the long run? Will the government be okey with relinquishing the power they have harnessed once things calm down, or "will eurasia be in a perpetual war with eastasia", so to speak?
