Title says all, just for fun. I'm not familiar with PC building at all, but this is what I got. Is this even compatible?
2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 ASUS Rampage III Extreme INTEL Core i7-990x processor Extreme Edition ASUS Xonar Essence STX 12GB DDR3 RAM INTEL SSD 510 Series
I know you can't build a computer out of just this, going for the most important stuff.
Is that a dual GeForce Graphic card?
ASUS Xonar DX
If you're going all-out, get the Xonar Essence STX
This isn't a computer but it would be pretty cool to have http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=20380967
Most beast computer possible, you say? Challenge accepted! Just the bare bones. 4 physical CPUs/48 total cores, 256GB DDR3 RAM and the best graphics card I could find.

And a watercooling loop. Cooled by a 1080 rad, with 5600 rpm Gentle Typhoons. Or, cool it with LIQUID NITROGEN!
The Sandy Bridge i7 2600k outperforms the 990x in all but a handful of benchmarks, so swap that out in OP and include the Rampage IV motherboard. Although yes Rupert's build would beast everything.

And there isn't a Rampage IV yet? Can't find it, link me? :S
When is ivy bridge supposed to come out? And how much is it supposed to cost?
When is ivy bridge supposed to come out? And how much is it supposed to cost?
Ivy bridge = Sandy bridge with usb 3.0 support by default, and support for 3 instead of 2 screens on the igp
Ivy bridge = Sandy bridge with usb 3.0 support by default, and support for 3 instead of 2 screens on the igp
Along with a 30% graphics boost and a 20% CPU performance boost. With the new 3d tri-gate transistor thingies And it's the 22nm process
Along with a 30% graphics boost and a 20% CPU performance boost. With the new 3d tri-gate transistor thingies And it's the 22nm process
I thought ivybridge was lga 2011 as well, right?
I thought ivybridge was lga 2011 as well, right?
Yea, but I believe its backwards compatible with lga 1155.
Yea, but I believe its backwards compatible with lga 1155.
Nah, it's the successor to 1366, it's socket incompatible (pincompatible? :v:) just like 1156 is with 1155 (how would you connect 2011 contacts to 1366 pins anyway?)
Sandybridge will probably go in ivy bridge sockets, but not the other way around.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Bridge Ivy Bridge processors will be backward compatible with the Sandy Bridge platform. http://tech2.in.com/india/news/cpus/is-intel-making-ivy-bridge-backwards-compatible/194222/0

http://tech2.in.com/india/news/cpus/is-intel-making-ivy-bridge-backwards-compatible/194222/0
Ah, just looked it up, the 2011's are the "exteme/high end" processors, and come out q4 2011 with the rest of the new sandybridge's
Would Ivy Bridge be worth the cost when it comes out, or would it be better to just get sandy bridge until the price comes down?
When is ivy bridge supposed to come out? And how much is it supposed to cost?
Ivybridge is Q2 2012 I believe, and SandyBridge E is Q4 2011 pretty sure.
What is sandybridge-E?
