.WAV files won't play in a custom sound scheme, any advice?

I'm trying to set up my computer to use .WAV files of GlaDOS's voice instead of default Windows sounds.
I have extracted the files using GCFscape and have selected a few I want to use. They will play fine when I open them with WMP, but for some reason they don't play if I try to assign them in a sound scheme.
Anyone know what I can try?
It could be something to do with different WAV file formats and their compression.

I think you nailed it, I just started opening the files in Audacity and exporting them as .WAV files and then they will work.
Thanks.
