(Reuters) - At least 35 people were killed in a wave of car bomb and mortar attacks in mainly Shi'ite Muslim districts of Baghdad on Tuesday, Iraqi police and medical sources said. It was one of the most violent days the capital has witnessed since U.S.-led forces began bombing Islamic State insurgents in Iraq last month. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks but Islamic State, ultra-radical Sunni Muslim militants who seized swathes of northern Iraq in June, claimed several suicide bombings in the capital earlier this year. Two car bombs exploded in busy streets in the al-Horreyya district, killing 20 people and wounding 35, according to the police and medical sources. There was also a mortar attack in the Sab al-Bour neighbourhood of northern Baghdad that killed five people and wounded 15. Later on Tuesday, at least seven people were killed and 18 wounded when a car bomb exploded in the mainly Shi'ite Zaa'faraniya district of southeast Baghdad, police said. Three mortars also landed in the Shi'ite al-Shula district in the capital's northwest, killing three people and wounding 12, police said.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/30/us-iraq-crisis-idUSKCN0HP24B20140930
Bastards killing civilians just because of their beliefs. [t]http://s4.reutersmedia.net/resources/r/?m=02&d=20140930&t=2&i=979926050&w=580&fh=&fw=&ll=&pl=&r=LYNXNPEA8T0XT[/t]
nothing like fighting a war against unarmed civilians living their normal routine ah good ol' terrorism
This isn't terrorism, they have no intent of just "scaring" people into doing something; they will kill you simply because they believe that it should be done. It's pretty clean cut to them, if you helped the Kafir then expect to die.
So when the fuck are we deploying boots to the ground?
Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, this is the first war in a very, very long time where we can fullheartedly say we are doing the right thing if we intervene. Of course though, we'd still require some UN Resolutions to ensure the next government is secular and not batshit insane regarding religious sects.
War isn't ever about "doing the right thing". It's always about "what's in it for me"; in which case it's all about "what's in it for American companies that have invested in Iraq".
Well outside of oil, precious metals, preventing a genocide among other things... Iraq is pretty much one of the few bases of operation we could take and use in the Middle East, and it'll most likely allow us to create a breakaway Kurdistan which will create a buffer state between Iraq and Iran. We can also use this conflict to try and get on good terms with the Iranians, which need I say would be fucking fantastic.
We're barely getting any oil from them, their precious materials are replaceable, and preventing genocide should be the UN's job. It's useless as a base of operation because they can't even defend themselves enough to allow us to use them as a base of operations.
hah, UN cant solve jack shit, however, mercenaries are another story.
Note how I said "should". In all reality it's not going to do a damn thing, but it really shouldn't be up to the US to come and fix every problem the world has.
yeah, sorry about that. i just wanted to point out the UN is incapable of solving anything and is nothing but just a paper warrior.
