Boehner will resign from Congress and give up his House seat at the end of October, according to aides in his office. Mr. Boehner was under extreme pressure from the right wing of his conference over whether or not to defund Planned Parenthood in a bill to keep the government open.
It sucks that his party has to shame him constantly about being moderate; his stances made it seem like compromise would actually be reached in the House, but people like Ted Cruz have to ruin anything not reactionary conservative.
I think we are getting to the point where the GOP itself is going to rip its entire party apart because of this type of bullshit.
It already has with the rise of the Tea Party, however, it's creating a huge burden on the GOP that's blocking any policy making or voting. The "don't vote" mentality is what caused Mitt Romney to lose.
He's leaving congress all together, even though his district is pretty safe, I wonder if that means his seat will be on the November ballot or a later election. The sad part is the republicans are just going to install someone even worse and even more tan, and they're going to shut everything down the next budget fight that heads to the hill because they won't get their way
I did not agree with him on a lot of things but MAN he had one of the hardest jobs ever. Imagine becoming 3rd in line for president and everyone in your party immediately working against you... for nearly 5 years straight.
And now I'm entirely fucking worried about another government shutdown. Fuck these god damn conservatives.
There will be no shutdown. He will prevent it and not take any political flack because he is retiring. He sacrificed himself to keep the government going.

appropriate thread title lol
Yeah but what about next year
Bernie motherfucking Sanders. That's the only response I have, sorry
Bernie motherfucking Sanders. That's the only response I have, sorry
No, that's 2017.
Boehner just sacrificed his career to keep the government going. I don't give a shit what any other politician says, that's a man of values.
What a 180 of opinions on him. Everyone hated him up until now.
I still don't like him.
TECHNICALLY depending on how you look at it, the Speaker does have a significant amount of power. I do believe that the position is responsible for appointing committee heads and overseeing what appropriations gets approved or shot down (i.e. taxes, budgets)
What a 180 of opinions on him. Everyone hated him up until now.
You can respect a man and still think he's a douche, though.
There will be no shutdown. He will prevent it and not take any political flack because he is retiring. I for one welcome the 3rd American party system. It seems like the Democrats are the only ones who are legitimately good at politics
I for one welcome the 3rd American party system. Just wanting "some other choice" doesn't always mean a better one is out there.
And which party would that be, exactly? American Communist Party? The Constitution Party? Just wanting "some other choice" doesn't always mean a better one is out there.
Truly, it's time for the US Green Party to start their momentous march. Everything will become Florida!
And which party would that be, exactly? American Communist Party? The Constitution Party? Just wanting "some other choice" doesn't always mean a better one is out there.
I don't mean 3rd party, I mean the third version of the American political party system. The first was dem-reps vs. Federalists and now it's reps vs dems. I want the third version to come out so the Republicans can die off for 30 years and give control to the Democrats for a while
Boehner is too flaccid for congress.

You didn't even mention the Whig party.
Dat title
you could say mr.Boehner's presidential running has just went limp

As much as I've criticized and distrusted Boehner, I have to admire him for putting bipartisanship ahead of radicals in his own party. It's a shame that we keep losing all the moderate Republicans though, and I can't help but anticipate more turmoil in the coming years.

I was not aware that he committed political suicide to stop the government from shutting down, was that back when it shut down for several days? If so, it's somewhat sad to see someone with some values in the government leave a spot open for another individual twice as insane to take his place.
