After watching this , I wondered if I could start my own independent space program. I'm just a seventeen year old, but within a few years or decades, I could have the money and the education to make a few rockets.
So I MS Painted some overly simplistic schematics for a rocket (brought to low orbit by balloons). The rocket would carry a small satellite meant to take a few pictures of Earth and not much else.

The satellite would be composed of a modified laptop, camera, battery, and a network of gas tanks (to blast gas out and make flight path adjustments). It would also have some sort of communications array (to email me the pictures), but I'm not technical enough to paint that. And then there are the solar panels/heat sinks which could keep the satellite powered for possibly months or years.
In hindsight, I realize that I misspelled satellites in my painting.
Thoughts? Ideas?
On a scale of 1-10, how high are you right now?

If I was high, this is what I would have posted, you nitwit:

My mind isn't under the influence of any drugs.
I just have an imagination and paint what I imagine sometimes.
It's not going to work at all because of the sheer weight of the rocket, having it fly off while under such unstable conditions (being up in the air, not having any solid ground beneath it or anything to stabilize to ensure that it won't fall down etc) will only cause it to crash and burn.
I'm sorry but if you had spent some time in school during physics and mathematics you would've known why this isn't feasible, it would've been OK if you were 12-13 or something because then you wouldn't know about all the logistics but now you're 17 year old.
Building this would be a gigantic waste of resources, I really don't think anyone of your education will ever get a job that'll make it possible for you to pay for this project either and there is a reason why you have to funnel millions into sending off satellites into orbit ; the materials necessary to sustain it and to get it into the air isn't something you can get at <pickyourlocalcheapwalmartorequivalent>, it's something you'll have to order specifically and with some authority.
I'm sorry, if balloons were a viable way of getting satellites into orbit then the government would use it, I don't know if the balloon drawn is supposed to be scalewise but you are going to need a really, really really REALLY big balloon to send a rocket up in the air.
You might have to revalue the worth of texas too, it was a long time ago since I took geography but I sure as hell know that texas isn't half of USA in height and one third in width.
Also holy crap canada is large!
That is one kickass moon though, I'll give you that.
You know the common phrase: 'it isn't exactly rocket-science'?
It kind of applies to this in a very ironic way.
your satellite needs 10 centimeters of radiation shielding all over it
otherwise you'll encounter EM radiation and guess what? EVERYTHING ELECTRONICAL IS FRIED.
This reminds me of my project!
I am going to build a small flying craft.

Nooo,
if you were high, you would post that shit in the OP. This picture you posted is just a terribly drawn picture of a guy in a flying car.
The OP is a stupid idea that would never work and has WAYYYY too much thought put into it, while seriously thinking it would work
That is what you do when you are high.
And that is not imagination, it's stupidity and ignorance

English never was my favourite subject.

Pretty sure that balloon would burst from the gas expansion in the lower air pressure too... Not to mention everything else that's unfeasible in his design.

I never said it would work. I just figure that it would be a good idea to use a balloon to get a small rocket to this altitude:

Then have the rocket push the rest of the way up into orbit.
It's supposed to be a cheap, minimalistic, nooby way of getting something into space. It's like making the goal of getting something into space for $10000.
Also, my goal wasn't supposed to draw texas 100% accurately. My "high on drugs" picture was supposed to be like that South Park episode where Kenny gets high off of cat piss.

Um...why is there a laptop in your 'satalite'?
In case you get bored and need to play Gmod? Or something else? Because usually these things have dedicated circuits to handle things like the camera...
I really feel there is no hope for the future generations. You're 17. I'm the same age as you, and yet I know this is something completely unfeasible. I may have shrugged it off if you were 10, its what I used to dream about at that age, but 17??
Also getting something in to low Earth orbit would be hard using a balloon. Also why do you have heat sinks on your satellite?
Listen in physics class next time ;)

Boy that sure is a specific altitude.
There's a thread for this.

I never knew that a laptop couldn't run a few programs that operate an intentionally cheap and disposable satellite.
I figure heat sinks would be useful so that everything inside of the satellite doesn't overheat.
I don't need a physics class to tell me that it's possible for high altitude balloons lift an object.
I guess you're right. I guess I give you a reason to not hope for future generations because I doodled a shitty concept for a satellite in MS Paint at the age of seventeen.
You really haven't thought this thing through have you?
Have you thought about how much lift your balloon(s) can generate and if it's enough to bring your 'rocket' and 'sattelite' to your desired altitude before bursting?
Have you thought about the stability of your queer looking contraption?
Have you thought about the lift that your rocket generates?
Have you thought of a guidance system to bring it into orbit? You don't want it to shoot off of earth and you don't want it to fall back to earth.
Have you thought about location and safety and transportation? You can't just do this in your backyard.
Have you thought about the software needed to guide this rocket into orbit?
Have you thought about materials needed for your rocket?
Have you thought of the instruments needed for your rocket to measure altitude, velocity, etc.?
Have you thought about all the calculations you need to make?
And I can go on like this all day questioning you.
Now OP, you can either agree that your idea was something stupid and you were just a bit ignorant to this subject, or you can disagree and make yourself look more of a fool than you already are.
or you can disagree and make yourself look more of a fool than you already are.
It's too late. He's already done that.
This is stuff you come up with when you're 10-12 years old and haven't gotten a proper education yet, by the age of 17 you should've learned a couple of things and why this is a bad idea and why you require proper education to even get a rocket to work, and you want to build a goddamn satellite.
No buddy, this is retarded shit and I hope this is just some phase for you, because it's obviously something you've put a lot of thought into and it saddens me that you think this is a viable solution.
A laptop will freeze shut with how you've done it after a couple of thousand meters up in the air, and it saddens me that you've neglected physics class so much that you really think this is something you can do.
But hey, if you want to waste thousands of dollars on something that'll crash and burn be my guest, I just hope you got the proper licenses to send it up into the air.
Just order two tons of SIST EN 22340 type metal and you'll be fine OP

And use h11 tolerances
I put about 5 minutes worth of thought into it and it was mostly guessing what components a simple satellite might. I don't know why you are bitching to me about every factor into launching a satellite. Did you even read my original post? I typed that within a few years or decades, I could have the education and the money to make a few rockets. I've already admitted that it was shitty concept for a satellite. My concept certainly doesn't reflect four or so years worth of learning to be an engineer at college.
When you measure your altitude as ''teddybear height'' I really can't take you seriously no matter what you say.
