I dunno how this 'feels out of place'. Link always has some strange magical power in every game.

Most importantly, it makes a good gameplay element. The gameplay I saw of the demo dungeon had some really clever parts where this was used.

i've always felt that time travel was a relevant subject in most of the zelda series, the same goes for making "music". in my opinion, it's not that "going 2D and walking on the wall" is implausible, it's that they could have done something much better and actually relevant to the story.

Apart from "In the same world as LttP", we don't know anythingabout the story yet. It could be quite relevant to the story, much like the four sword was worked into the canon.
