A Good Samaritan saved the life of a grandfather who suffered a massive heart attack on a bus by performing CPR while singing Bee Gees hit Stayin' Alive.

Retired taxi boss Terry Holly, 67, slumped to the floor of the double-decker in front of shocked passengers as he headed home from seeing his ex-wife.
Sharon Thorneywork realised he was having heart problems and remembered a TV advert telling viewers to administer CPR by pumping the chest in time to the pop song.
“"I asked him 'are you all right' and 'can you hear me' but he was going quite blue and he wasn't breathing properly," she said.
"I turned him over and began feeling for his pulse, but I couldn't find one and he was getting more and more blue.
"In a situation like that I think you go into autopilot, I wasn't aware of what was going on around me, I just knew how to do chest compressions and was singing the Bee Gees to myself.

Vinnie Jones what a legend.
I got taught to do CPR to the beat of this song too so it mustn't be an uncommon thing.
It's cause it's a pretty apt song and the beat goes pretty closely with the timing for the compressions.
But yeah man, Vinnie Jones, what a guy.
Brilliant presentation.
This was on The Office.

100 bpm, same as the rate you should do compressions. Pretty neat coincidence.

There are some strange people who read the Telegraph.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this. I just hope another passer by didn't try to harvest the organs and cut off the face like Dwight did.
Alternative to "Stayin' Alive" is also "Another one bites the dust"
Slightly less appropriate though
I was told to do it to Nellie the elephant. :v:
(the fast bit, obviously)
Wow Errol (the guy with the facial hair in the ad) from Snatch really let himself go
In the air force we did CPR training to this song.
" 'eres one i made earlier."
It's hard to take him seriously as a tough guy with that accent, but useful video nonetheless
He reminds me of Dermot Hoggins.

Another great song to time CPR to is "Another One Bites The Dust".
Is this "hands only" technique a fairly new one? I was taught how to do cpr back in 2008 but I was taught the "2 breaths, 30 compressions" version.
I wonder if any bystanders got their phone out and actually started playing Stayin' Alive as background music. I know I would have.

For some reason I remember 15 compressions and something
See this is probably why they simplified it.
less exposure to whatever the person has in or around their mouths which is why its changed to a more simplified cpr for civilians.
Single person CPR is now hands-only I believe. Its also CAB, not ABC.
2-person adult: 30comp/2breath
2-person child: 15comp/2breath
I do Medical First Responder level CPR, and with one person we use a Bag Valve Mask and do compressions as well. You really should give breaths. Hands only is going to circulate oxygen, but it wont circulate any more than whats stored in the body. You need to give rescue breaths.

afaik Stayin Alive is the standard song they use to teach the rythm
before that it was Nellie the Elephant
on a more unrelated note, the term "good samaritan" comes from when samaritans acted good because usually samaritans were mean and nasty and unwantes
the more you know

You can carry around a 2$ face shield so you dont have to have contact with any body fluids tho~
CPR should be learnt in high school
