My dad was hooked on the classic Gauntlet. Think he told me he spent an average of $200 on the arcade slot as a kid.
Hot damn, just started playing this on an emulator with my friend so he can relive his childhood. It's so good and indepth
Reminds me of Hammerwatch.
I'm...actually kinda disappointed. Gauntlet was colorful as hell and the trailer wasn't all that pretty looking. I'm sure it will play like Gauntlet but it sure didn't strike me as Gauntlet just by looking at it. Enemies didn't look interesting either. Maybe it's because it's a trailer but I wouldn't want every enemy to look the same in a trailer. Also, wasn't the Archer female too? Arrowhead Studio's is great and all, I love Magicka, but I'm kinda shaky on this.
Reminds me of Hammerwatch.
Hammerwatch was based off of Gauntlet
Also, wasn't the Archer female too?
One of the modern ones changed it to female and archer. In the original "classic" Gauntlet its a male Elf.
I only played Gauntlet:Legends on N64 and I think you could select which sex you were.
legends didn't have any sex selection, but it did have "multiple characters" in each of the 4 starting characters/colors. dark legacy had the option of choosing gender.
Now to hope it won't be as glitched as magicka was at release.

Doesn't look like the only Gauntlet I experienced- Dark Legacy. The whole point was the massive variety of characters, items, environments. Those enemies all looked extremely bland, the levels looked boring and blocky, and with only four real character types I'd have lost my motivation to really explore and unlock new things. The music was awesome too, just an overall amazing ambiance with Dark Legacy that I don't see at all here.

I had no idea there was a Gauntlet older than Legends.
I played an obscene amount of Gauntlet Legends with my friends back when we were kids. We never beat the game, in fact I think we only ever beat the spider queen, but I did get the yellow wizard to level 99 which gave him a massive head. Now that I think about it, the reason I love Magicka's visual style so much is probably because I played so much Gauntlet Legends.
