I call bullshit on the "drone" part. That plane is clearly being piloted by a ghost.
"Boeing said that this was the first time an F-16 jet had been flown without a pilot" Liars, they're forgetting that time I jumped out while it was still on the runway. [editline]24th September 2013[/editline] Oh and that time I jumped out while it was in the air.
That's a pretty snazzy paint job
gives a use to old aircraft that aren't even useful for parts, I like it. Also, imagine a drone F/A-22 or A-10, we could have aircraft pulling 15G turns and not need to worry about the strain put on pilots

At the moment, these aren't being used as combat craft. They are target drones, just full sized.
However, a spokesman for the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots warned of the temptation to use them in warfare. "I'm particularly worried about the high speed at which they can travel because they might not be able to distinguish their targets very clearly."
This seems like a moot point, I'm sure they're designed to not go haywire on identification and targeting when subject to a bit of extra speed.

-snip- oops didn't read
Stop Killer Robots
robot =/= drone?
also the fact that that they aren't autonomous
Yeah, but. They can be, easily. Once you have the remote systems in place, all you need to do is write the backend for the drone bits. As for where you put that extra weight and computing equipment, easy. Cockpit.
Just because its autonomous though doesn't make it an automatic manslayer. Its a target drone, its not armed. The point of the drone program is to take our pilots and get them out of the cockpit, not eliminate the need for a human pilot. We're still wayyyyyyyy far away from fully automated and completely unmanned flying armed anythings, on both a technical level and a legal level. Cockpit.
Its not nearly that simple. The amount of data that it has to take in and process in real time is immense. Not to mention having to physically add the additional sensors. The thing needs an awareness of its altitude, the environment around it, the objects around it, its heading, its speed, its objective, the heading, speed, and intent of all the objects around it, it needs to know how to identify its target beyond a shadow of a doubt, it needs to know how/when to stand down, how to land, how to take off, the list goes on. We can barely get cars to do half of that.
