Yep, during the game it drops from 3.6 ghz to 1.2, but as soon as I quit to menu it jumps back up to between 3.6 and 2.7. Please tell me theres a fix, becasue I'm getting REALLY pissed. Similar behaviour is happening in TF2 and GMod, but its a bit less of a problem. i7 3820QM @ 2.7GHz. When the thermal CPU throttling is active goes down to 1.2 ghz, but this problem still happens even when its not throttled, I had Intel XTU open to confirm! But turns out its throttling as I write this, so I cant check any fixes immediatly. Is it possible to disable the throttling? :( I just want to play some CSGO Edit: EDit 2: Is also happening for DayZ.
Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options and choose high performance. Then hit "Change plan settings" for high performance, and choose "Change advanced power settings". Find Processor power management and select minimum processor state. Change that value to 80 or 100.
Disable Intel SpeedStep and Turbo Boost in BIOS
Disable Intel SpeedStep and Turbo Boost in BIOS
Ooops, forget to say that I'm running Win 7 on a MacBook Pro. It doenst have a BIOS, its got an EFI, but that has exclusive functions for OSX + even if it could do windows stuff, the BIOS would be locked down, because Apple hate you messing with settings... I tried disabling Turbo Boost in Intel XTU but then that just meant the max was 2.7 instead of 3.6... Wow, now I'm idling at 70C and I just turned my laptop on 5 minutes ago. I only have some chrome tabs open! Edit: WTF? ITS OVER 100C NOW! HOLY SHIT!
Sounds like you need to clean the fans or replace the TIM
Sounds like you need to clean the fans or replace the TIM
How do you do that for a MacBook Pro 15" Non Retina?

Unless thats just Intel XTU wrongly reporting the throttling value...

I could try, but I wont be able to monitor thermal throttling, just the clock. I cant do it now, but I will a bit latter on.
