• My computer makes clicking noises occasionally, is it a virus?

Like the title says, my computer makes random clicking sounds once in a while (about 5 minutes in between each click?). The sound is the same as when you open a folder or file in Explorer. I am a bit worried and have run several scans with MSE, but it doesn't pick up anything. Is there something else that might be causing the clicking sound?
Depending on the type of clicking (you might not have heard it properly) it's [i]possibly[/i] your HDD failing.
MSE doesn't detect shit Download malwarebytes and run a scan with that then come tell us what it finds. I bet you have viruses that you would never even known about.
It's a bomb throw it out the window.
Is the sound coming out from inside the PC or from the speakers?
The speakers, sounds like a double click like when you open a file [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=>VLN<;28582316]MSE doesn't detect shit Download malwarebytes and run a scan with that then come tell us what it finds. I assume he's talking about that horrible sound IE makes when it loads a page. It could be a virus, but it could be a program - Starcraft II's patcher kept doing this to me, it was the most annoying thing ever, I hate that stupid click.
It's unlikely, but when I had strange clicky noises coming from my speakers it was because that damned Windows XP Search Dog was scratching its ears every so often because I hadn't closed the window.
Alright, I'm running a search with MB now. [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] I don't experience any slowdown or other weird interference, and I haven't visited any odd sites or downloaded anything fishy either. [editline]13th March 2011[/editline] Malwarebytes didn't find anything either. Does anyone else have any idea what I can do?
I heard of one virus that makes random clicking and other noises through your speakers.
What programs are you running?
Make sure no program with IE or IE itself is running. Also you can check the audio mixer and see where it's coming from. Though you'll probably have to watch it for a while depending on how often it happens.

Also I don't use IE, I use chrome
[QUOTE=iLife_Aftermath;28584292]Also I don't use IE, I use chrome[/QUOTE] Yeah but some programs use Trident/MSHTML which make that noise on any event. If you can't figure it out you can disable the sound by going to Control Panel\Sound > [Sounds] > Program Events: Windows Explorer\Start Navigation and change it to (None)
