I'm sure that everything is real. Sometimes I also get this surreal feeling and start thinking deeply about exactly this.
what's the difference if all of the experiences/qualia are the same?
[editline]29th October 2011[/editline]
why even bother with the question if it has no implications whatsoever?
Sometimes i wonder if this category is being moderated? I've seen like 3 questions that are essentially the same. If you want to debate this, go post in the matrix thread or something. No need to make a new one if you change one word in the question.
You should go out more often
So I read the Pokemon Ash Ketchum Theory lately and it made me think. Is anything real or am I just dreaming this all up? Like is there me in a different world (lets call it the "real world") but I'm in a coma and where I am now is the "dream world". Is there me as I am now in the "dream world" in the "real world" but in a coma just dreaming this whole world up based on me, who I know, what I wanted to do, and who I wanted to be?
Here I'll make some sort of time-line in writing because it's kinda late and I'm too lazy to make a picture of it instead.
>Me in the "real world"
>get in accident and get in coma in the "real world"
>in coma I dream me in the same world (now talking about the "dream world") but different, it's based on who I was and what and who I knew in the "real world".
Anyone else ever think about life like this? It's kind of spooken' if you ask me. And if this is just a dream, I don't want to wake up from it. It's just too good.
Ugh, think about it. And then don't start laughing.
If I were to be in this "Dream world", I will have to find a way of manipulating the dream world to my liking.
Or you can just deal with the world like any sane person does: Based on evidence. You have no reason to believe you're in a dream, so don't act like it is.
Nothing is real, you don't exist, I don't exist, nobody exists. We are programs in a large computer and we are simply programmed to think we are real. But to the universe above us, they are programmed to think they exist, and it goes on and on and on.

Proof?
Something must be real in order for us to experience anything.
This steak feels and tastes awesome and you can't take that away from me.
Read up on empiricism, this sort of thing has been discussed by some of philosophy's greatest minds for centuries.
"Cogito ergo sum", etc
Well everything in reality is a matter of how your brain perceives it. Your brain will not question itself being in reality unless you train it to do so (which is how you lucid dream).

When you are in a coma there is low brain activity, you don't even dream. So no you are not in a coma.
Proof?
Play a video game, any video game. They think their reality is real. Now, you, me, and everyone is is a player character for the player character above us.
Something must be real in order for us to experience anything.
All that you can know to be real is your own consciousness, but not even the validity of your own thoughts.
Example: It's possible that I could be a man from a 'higher plane of existence' dreaming up my whole life. Or I could be a rambling lunatic who's created this elaborate world around myself completely dissimilar from what actually exists.
Play a video game, any video game. They think their reality is real.
They don't think. They're puppets.
Now, you, me, and everyone is is a player character for the player character above us.
Prove it.
Play a video game, any video game. They think their reality is real. Now, you, me, and everyone is is a player character for the player character above us.
Except for the fact they dont think.
Prove it.
That's the problem, you can't disprove it. On the otherhand, it's entirely absurd and given that there's no evidence one must assume it to be false.
So while it's possible that you all don't exist, I have no positive evidence and will continue living as normal.
Pain is real whether you are dreaming or not - so is pleasure. While you live, there is no upper bound on how much pleasure you can receive. If you die, you will never, ever know pleasure again. Is that not enough reason to keep on living like this is real?

I don't think anyone mentioned killing theirself
That's the problem, you can't disprove it.
That's not a problem seeing as I don't have to. The one making the claim has the burden of proof.
Let me take you down, cause I'm going to
Strawberry Fields
nothing is real
If we say that we're being controlled, what's stopping the person playing from going absolutely batshit insane? They shouldn't care about our day to day life and just grab a chainsaw and go mental...
That's not a problem seeing as I don't have to. The one making the claim has the burden of proof.
There isn't proof, but it's wrong to ignore the possibility. I certainly don't believe it, but I can't deny it's possible.
There isn't proof, but it's wrong to ignore the possibility. I certainly don't believe it, but I can't deny it's possible.
I'm not ignoring the possibility. If you make extraordinary claims, you should include extraordinary evidence. This man did not, so I simply wanted the evidence. I don't see your problem with it.
Or you can just deal with the world like any sane person does: Based on evidence. You have no reason to believe you're in a dream, so don't act like it is.
Unless your mentally insane.
waking up to find oneself to be a butterfly who had dreamed of having lived a human life
Kind of like this except a human dreaming this life up (but same me). Never really thought of other species dreaming the "dream world".
