Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn says it has finally agreed a deal to take over struggling Japanese electronics company Sharp.
Foxconn said the deal was worth 389bn yen ($3.5bn; £2.4bn) and would give it a 66% stake in Sharp.
Foxconn, which assembles most of the world's iPhones, first offered to invest in the troubled Japanese firm in 2012, but talks collapsed.
The two firms said the deal would be signed on 2 April.
It would be the first foreign takeover of a major Japanese electronics firm.

Founded in 1912, Sharp is one of Japan's oldest technology firms.
Japanese officials had been reluctant to let it fall under foreign ownership because of the distinctive technology behind its display panels.
Before the announcement of a deal with Foxconn, Sharp had been discussing a rival offer from a government-backed consortium of Japanese investors.
Although recent years have seen a downturn in its fortunes, the firm continued to be a leader in liquid display technology, a key asset for Foxconn.
Get ready for Sharp's former quality control to take a nosedive.
For the image, I'm presuming they're putting up nets to stop people from jumping out the windows and killing themselves from how shit foxconn's slave labour sweatshop working conditions are?
edit: wow, I was right, that is actually really depressing.

I'm sure Foxconn will put a couple of those nets, so it doesn't hit the ground too hard.
This is disheartening news. But I heard they were overproducing products and those kinds of things for a while, so I think this wasn't unexpected?
Surely Japanese work standard regulations are better than those that Foxconn would employ of its own will?

Foxconn now has the power to shutdown all their factories in Japan and relocate whatever remains of Sharp to the mainland where the bar for working conditions is set so low it's a joke, but continue to operate it the same or better output.

Globalization!
It's OK though in 30 years it'll all be done by robots in Bangladesh somehow because it'll be cheaper to build a workerless factory there for some reason
While I'm sure the Japanese will hate this, their economy is floundering and they need foreign investment.
rip japanese industry pls
