A Jewish Israeli man has been shot dead near Jerusalem's Western Wall after a guard mistook him for a Palestinian militant, police say.
Police say the guard shot the man after hearing him shout "Allahu Akbar".
Hundreds of worshippers were attending morning prayers at the time. The area has been closed to visitors.
The incident took place at about 07:40 local time (04:40 GMT).

A police spokesman said the guard drew his weapon and fired a number of shots at the man because of hearing him shout "Allahu Akbar" (God is great, in Arabic).
The man was seen pulling something from his pocket as he emerged from a public toilet at the wall compound, Israeli media reported.
Pretty shitty last words, for anyone not muslim. I mean, how's Jewish-Saint-Peter gonna react when you reach the pearly gates and tell 'im that that's the last thing over your lips?
What would have happened if he shouted "god is great" in Hebrew? He was only shot for speaking Arabic.
What did he expect was going to happen to him

I don't think there's a lot of people who would yell god is great in Hebrew before blowing themselves up, the same is unfortunately not true for it in Arabic. Even if it was anything else in Arabic it probably wouldn't have brought the same reaction, just that there's the obvious connection between yelling allahu ackbar and someone who may have ill-intentions at a Jewish holy site.

Nothing? Seems like a regular thing to say during prayer at the western wall.
to be fair, usually in that part of the world if your guarding something and a guy comes up and shouts that, generally an explosion follows
To be entirely honest, what do you expect them to do? In most circumstances, when someone goes to a Jewish holy site and shouts "God is Great." in Arabic, they normally go boom right after.
still doesn't mean the guard is right either though, the problem is both sides are powder kegs and any little thing can spark another bloody skirmish between rockets and artillery fire

The guy didn't come up to a guard and shout "Allahu Ackbar" in his face. He was heard shouting it in prayer and was killed. Despite what you see on Live Leak, it is an extremely common prayer and I wouldn't be surprised if the guy was just expressing praise for God in all three languages.

Except it seems odd, since Allah isn't the name for God in Judaism. Allah doesn't mean God, it's a name for God. A name that conflicts with the Jewish YHWH.

You got it there. Though they are similar Allah and Yahweh are somewhat different concepts of a wholly similar God.

Allah is exact same thing as as Yahweh and God. There's no difference and can be used interchangeably.

Yeah, they're all the same Abrahimic god, but different religions have different names for him. You won't ever hear a Christian call God Allah, despite it being the exact same dude-in-the-clouds.

Are you so dumb?
Like, REALLY?
Jewish YHWH
Its because its not a "name", it describes what it is, and it is what it is, the being.
Pretty hardcore philosophical stuff in there.
With these kind of news articles, you can really tell how fucked up and apologist people are towards this shit if you invert the circumstances. Imagine the shitstorm if a man was shot in Iran for saying "Amen" during a prayer.

Arab Christians call it allah.
So laserguided....what do muslims/arab guys yell everytime they are about to kill something?
Running into something with a bomb strapped to its chest: Allahu Akbar
Firing a KONKURS/KORNET into a T72: Allahu Akbar
Waiting for a T72 to pass over a IED: Allahu Akbar
I mean, its a 100% understandable reaction, but not justified.
EDIT: And what has been happening in Israel over the last years? In middle east?
Its not surprise, that the guy, seeing a guy in a crowded place, yelling Allahu Akbar (related to previously mentioned) + being seen pulling out something of his pocket , would think "Holy shit. Shoot or we Die"

When will people learn that Allahu Akbar isn't a war cry of any sort, and hardly even any more religious than saying "Oh my god" or "Thank god for that" is in the west?

Not every person who prays or says 'oh my god' and also speaks Arabic is a terrorist.

Read carefully what I have said. I never said it didnt mean that. I said, that everytime Islamics/Arabs are about to destroy something, they say that.
Don't believe me? Wait...

100% Understandable, not justified. Not justified due to what you have just said.
Maybe the guard thought the guy had explosive diarrhea?

How isn't it justified? He can speak whatever language he wants while praying. I thought voice was a basic human right.

The shooting wasn't justified, but the concern that brought it on was understandable.
The shooting wasn't justified, but the concern that brought it on was understandable.
Exactly.
EDIT: LOL, laserguided, why would you call him dumb if he just clarified what I was trying to say? Chill man.
The shooting wasn't justified, but the concern that brought it on was understandable.
It's not understandable unless you're unreasonable.

Guy pulls something from jacket, yells something commonly preceeding terrorist attacks from factions highly hostile towards Israel, right next to the holiest site of Israel, during prayer. Yeah, it's understandable. I won't say it's right, or that the guard shouldn't be punished, but I totally see where he's coming from in doing that.

It also commonly occurs during a prayer.
It also commonly occurs during a prayer.
Much less so during a Jewish prayer.
I dunno about you guys, but saying "god is great" seems like pretty much a fucking staple of ANY of their prayers.
