Tired of delivery trucks rumbling near its mythic canals, Belgium's medieval town of Bruges has approved the construction of a beer pipeline to link a five-century-old brewery to a bottling factory nearby.
The two-mile underground pipeline will link the De Halve Maan brewery in the heart of the "Venice of the North" to an industrial park where the beer will be bottled and shipped to drinkers worldwide, company director Xavier Vanneste said.
"The idea is born of environmental and quality of life concerns, and not economic ones," he said.
Once fully approved and constructed, the pipeline will keep 500 trucks out of the city's cobblestoned alleys every year, about 85pc of the town's lorry traffic.
Beer has been brewed on the site for nearly five centuries and 100,000 tourists visit the premises every year, a major stop on tours of the town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
How long till someone gets the smart idea and starts siphoning from said pipeline?
Edit
Better yet if its underground, how long till someone digs deep enough breaks said pipe and starts shouting "I'M RICH!"
In fuckin' Bruges?!
This is actually a pretty neat idea when you think about it.
Damn straight that's how we do it. Economic breakthrough in Belgium is based on answering the question: "How do we get drunk faster/cheaper?"

It's Belgium not the US
it's an inanimate fucking object

It's fuckin Bruges, not USA
For some reason when I read the title I thought they would pipe beer to roadside beer stations
The actual idea is much more sensible, though

Sounds like an episode of the Simpsons
Probably is
Coming from brewery experience on my end, cleaning and cooling those lines is going to be a real fuckin' bitch.
Good luck, Bruges.
If I grew up in a farm, and was retarded, maybe this would impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.
It's neat but up to 500 truckers will possibly lose their livelihood because of this.
BTTH - Beer to the House.
This must happen!

True, but why do they need to cool it?
If it's kept under pressure and is deep enough, cooling it won't be a problem at all!
i'm doing my transport homework for my chemical engineering class and this just made me laugh
i have the equations in front of me to tell you how much beer will flow through it per second
but i won't tell you since im missing lots of stuff

If a two mile long underground beer pipeline doesn't impress you or excite you, I wouldn't want to be you

It's a line from the movie.

Reroute the pipes to your plumbing so you get free beer right out of your sink
It's fuckin Bruges, not USA
Were there's a will there's a way, and there's likely going to be that one guy whose probably going to try to attempt such a feat.

I wish I lived someplace where people thought like that.
anyone else concerned about beer traveling in underground pipes? possible leaks or contamination? Maybe I just don't civic engineer hard enough.

Considering they seem to do it pretty well with water I think they'll be ok.

you'd be surprised
Good I was planning on visiting there sometime. Looks really nice

Beer companies should be classified as common carriers. Beer to every house.
Why contain it? Let it spill over to the schools and churches, let the bottles pile up in the streets.

Why not just home brew it in your hot water tank?
