(CNN) -- A Georgia man will face criminal charges for accidentally setting fire to his wife by flicking his lighter near his pickup truck's gas tank while refueling.
Austin Dawkins, 37, of Clarkesville will be charged with reckless conduct, according to a statement from the state fire safety commissioner, Ralph Hudgens.
Dawkins' wife, 30-year-old Jessica Dawkins, suffered second- and third-degree burns to her legs, arms, back and head at a Clarkesville gas station on October 16, Hudgens said.
A gas station surveillance video released by Hudgens shows the couple standing outside the truck near the gas nozzle when Austin Dawkins appeared to ignite his cigarette lighter and then lower his hand to the nozzle. The video shows flame shooting from the nozzle and burning Jessica Dawkins while Austin Dawkins rushes to remove the nozzle.
He also pulled the pump out of the car, god damn. Use some common sense, holy fuck.
You aren't supposed to pull the nozzle out when there's a fire.
I don't think there's any common sense or rational thoughts when a fire bursts right in your face guys

especially if you don't know you shouldn't do that

how could anyone in the universe ever not know that you shouldn't play with a lighter at the gas station

But the natural instinct is just to run, it took extra thought on his part to pull the nozzle out, and anybody who's ever driven a car should have had to hear not to pull the pump out. Even if they haven't, it doesn't take much to understand that pulling out the pump will turn it into a flamethrower.

clearly he didn't have much common sense before the fire either though
It looked like he was trying to blow everyone up, or he is literally that stupid.

exactly
why would anyone play with fire in a gas station(besides him)
that looked really painful for the woman, poor woman
how could you possibly think this is a good idea
how

How dumb can you be???

37 year old with a baseball cap that's too small for his head.
Just so you guys know:
Smoking a cigarette near a gas pump will not create a fire.
Creating a spark near a gas pump WILL cause a fire.
I'm sorry but that doesn't look like a fucking accident, he lights the fire, holds it to her face, then lowers it to the nozzle.
How does anyone do that casually or accidentally.

He was probably fucking with her, "Aww, baby, look see? Nothing is ha-FUCK! STOP DROP AND ROLL!"
What a fucking idiot. Now his wife has to live with severe disfigurements and crippling pain, perhaps going through so many reconstructive surgeries. The back of her head is going to look monstrous.
All because this dumb fuck decided to mess around near a filling station. It really makes me mad tbh. If anyone should have ended up with disfigurements, it should have been the idiot without any common sense. And to go and pull it out and douse his wife in the flames? God damn.
fair enough he made a mistake to cause a flame... but to actually flick the petrol onto his wife?
that response to an emergency is pure thickness.

when you flick cigarettes pieces of the "cherry" fly off.

then keep smoking your cigarettes near a gas pump and best of luck
Stupid idiot deserved to get at least his hands burned for this but no, in his infinite retardation his wife has to suffer the consequences
Just what was he thinking, if anything at all
the way he pulled the pump out like that almost looks like he did it on purpose
It actually looks in the slow-mo like he did it on purpose.
Reminded me of this:

To be honest it looks like the wife knows he's doing it, it really does look like a scam, he's looking around furtively, she doesn't even fucking flinch when he brings out his lighter, before that she's looking around furtively, and right before he does it, has her arm in a way attempting to be low key.

And people like you is why this happens. You do not go to a place where there are large tanks of highly flammable liquid with traces of flammable gasses in the air, and think "oh it's okay to smoke here, nothing can ever happen".

You're joking right
I absolutely hate when I see people smoking at the gas pump. There's already "No Smoking" signs on the pillars of most places, but apparently we need 15x15 "NO SMOKING - FLAMMABLE / EXPLOSIVE" signs at eye level on every side of every gas pump, because some people just don't quite get it.
This is why I hate when people start random fucking fires with like, some aerosol or some shit a foot away from my head because they think it's funny. One day, I swear, somebody's getting punched in the nose.
