The Associated Press and local media quoted state police as saying three people had died but the death toll could go as high as five. A woman who witnessed the crash, Shona Sternberg, told the Star-Ledger newspaper that she saw an explosion when the aircraft hit Interstate 287 in Harding, N.J., about 45 miles outside Manhattan. "There was a lot of fire and big black smoke," she said. "I could smell burning, burnt rubber. You see something happening, you know it's going to crash and you can't do anything." Sternberg told the newspaper it appeared the small plane's right wing broke off before the crash. The Associated Press quoted witnesses as saying that the plane, reportedly headed for Atlanta, spiraled out of control before crashing. Federal Aviation Administration officials said the plane was a Socata TBM-700, a single-engine plane that can carry up to six people. It left Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and disappeared from radar before crashing onto the highway.
Sad story. Right before Christmas... Here's where it went down, just north of exit 33: http://maps.google.com/?ll=40.773912,-74.468508&spn=0.055509,0.111494&t=m&z=14&vpsrc=6 Note the airport just NE of the crash location. They were probably just about to land, and their wing broke off. News report:
Damn, that would be terrifying to see while stuck in traffic. Kind of reminds me of the plane crash scene in Knowing; just a smaller plane.
That's right near me. I go planespotting near Teterburo all the time.
I bet it was Pauly D.
I bet it was Pauly D.
not exactly the right thread to be making jokes in
Kind of sounds like it stalled, but then again it seems like the pilot was in enough control to aim for the road.
I hope it was the Jersey Shore crew.

Depending on the age and mechanical condition of the plane, that could be just about anything. Metal fatigue, G-loads, bad rivets... 287 is still closed, from what I hear.
You guys make puns and jokes about dead people all the time, but now its in america and suddenly its not okay. Facepunch :downs:
and nothing of value was lost.
Three human lives aren't at all valuable? The hell is wrong with you?

The number is actually five. Two small children and three adults died.
