• Black Screen with only a Pointer After Reboot and Logon

Problem: Basically the title. Every time I reboot the computer and login, I get nothing on screen except the mouse pointer and a black background. No start menu, no taskbar, nothing (no CTRL-ALT-DEL either, don't ask). Safe mode also does not fix the problem. The only way I fix that is system restoring to whatever my last restore point was, regardless of what change was made. I'd obviously prefer this not happen, and :google: has not given me any applicable answers, so I ask FP: Please help! I don't believe this is a hardware problem, but if you need my system specs, I have taken a Speccy snapshot of my computer hardware, which can be found here.
Reinstall the OS... something went amiss or it got flagged for an illegal copy.
That would obvioiusly fix the problem, but I'm looking for a less time-consuming solution. (And yes, my OS copy is legal)
.
I updated my graphics card drivers and this happened to me (thank god for system restore). Just roll it back to when you are SURE your computer was working.

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with explorer.exe and csrss.exe

Try opening the command prompt and running sfc /scannow If those files are corrupt, Windows should pick up on it and replace them. Have your install DVD handy, as it will probably ask for it.
Delete System32. No, just kidding. I had this problem too.
