And there’s the cost. As the service opens to users, OnLive will be charging $14.99/£9.99 per month for CloudLift. That’s separate to the $9.99/£6.99 month they already charge to play the games in their PlayPack - a Netflix style service that allows users to stream a selection of games. Users that currently pay for the Play pack will have to pay more to access CloudLift. But to use the CloudLift service, players won’t have to pay for the PlayPack.
Lol no
Especially if it means I have to own the game on OnLive as well. Something like this sounds like it should be free/included in their current subscription model, not 1.5X the cost of it additional.
Woah, I didn't even know they were still around. It's actually pretty impressive that they've been able to keep the service going all this time without issue.
That extra cost is insane, though. Their userbase is surely steadily sliding downhill as it is, but they think a costly extra service that'll only appeal to a small subset of people will draw in a big crowd?
Because I'd think that most people who have these games on Steam have a gaming-capable PC already where they already play said game (because of the save file they'd supposedly want to import into OnLive) with OnLive only giving a little convenience while traveling (i.e. they can pull up said game and play it on any computer) or in a living room.
I was also going to mention their small library, but I looked it up and it's grown quite impressively since the last time I paid attention to OnLive. It's pretty interesting to see them still chugging along when so many people said it wouldn't work.
