A man who drove his car towards pedestrians in Vienna while shouting “Allahu Akbar” was merely singing along to rap music on a trip to buy pizza, his parents have said.
Police have arrested the 21-year-old driver, named as Ibrahim C, on suspicion of attempting to run down shoppers in a possible terror attack on 29 September.
Witnesses said passers-by leaped out the way as his Peugeot ploughed towards a pedestrianised zone of the Austrian capital’s Favoriten district.
A spokesperson for Vienna Police said Ibrahim had attempted to run down passers-by while shouting “Allahu Akbar”, repeating the Islamic phrase meaning “God is Great” while struggling against officers during his arrest.
Prosecutors said all lines of investigation were open but that a “religious motive could not be excluded” after a copy of the Quran was found on a car seat, with investigators searching Ibrahim’s home, laptop and electronic devices.
“The 21-year-old was not previously known to police,” a spokesperson said. “No link to extremist groups has so far been found.”
In interviews with local media, Ibrahim’s parents have said the episode was a huge misunderstanding, adding that their son was unemployed and had recently been suffering hallucinations after smoking cannabis.
His father, Mehmet Ali C, told the Österreich newspaper: “My son is not a terrorist and he did not want to kill anyone.
“Ibrahim borrowed my car to buy pizza from the shop where he always goes – he was looking for a parking space.”
Asked about the shouts of “Allahu Akbar”, Mehmet added: “He was listening to music in the car and was singing along loudly … he is against Isis.” The father also said the Quran was his.
These excuses are fucking retarded lmao. Who were they trying to fool, a toddler?
It's possible. It's generally not a good idea to drive while high on anything. But i'm inclined to call bullshit, as the guy was speeding through a large crowd, so it sounds very much like excuse-making from desperate parents who have watched their kid waste his entire future. And the current international climate doesn't exactly lend itself to people being lenient on cases such as these.
I have driven high once, it's something I'm never trying again but it isn't as bad as anyone expects. I was surprised at how good I was driving.
It keeps you focused on your actions, you might drive a few kilometers slower but it keeps your mind on the road.
What these braindead parents are saying is bullshit, plain and simple.
What an absolute load of bollocks.

that aint weed
Imagine forcing religion on your little angel and then he does something like this in the name of said religion. It must be hard for the parents to admit they fucked up, no wonder they are trying to make out that he's innocent.
As the GLC have said all along, rap is more deadly than kung fu

One day I rode around with a friend, he was driving, and everything was fine. I found out after that he had dropped acid before that ride. I couldn't tell, and his driving was normal.
The lesson for me was you can't really say definitely how driving under the influence will affect people, or even IF it will affect people. Too many variables, the person and their tolerance for the substance, the amount of the substance, the quality of the substance, is it night or day, is there heavy traffic or no traffic, etc.
Fuck his parents too.
If smoking cannabis is causing you to hallucinate, it's virtually guaranteed that you are already suffering from a psychotic disorder.
Smoking cannabis on its own does not cause hallucinations except in very high doses - upwards of ten grams rapidly usually.

One of those not-topgear car programs did a test with this years ago I seem to remember, dude actually drove better because he was more paranoid about his surroundings or someshit.

I constantly drive stoned, but my tolerance is retarded now. It just kinda affects everyone different. I've got a buddy who I've smoked with since o started who refuses to drive high still cause it psyches him out hard

Driving high is ten times safer than drunk.

Still not recommended at all though.
Driving tired is pretty bad too.
You do realize if you fuck up and cause an accident while you're under the effects of weed you're causing it to become even further demonized.
You're not supposed to drive anything while intoxicated, no matter if you're drunk or on weed
I'm also not supposed to smoke weed to begin with. I'm also not supposed to do about a million things that I do. It's coincidental, but I've been in 3 motor accidents sober and 0 high so I'm gonna keep doing me

I don't personally smoke weed and drive but studies suggest that smoking weed has incredibly small effects on your ability to drive and might make you a safer driver given that you're so worried about fucking up

I'm not saying that it's bad or that it's good, but elderly people drive "safer" because they're worried about fucking up and it actually causes them to get into more wrecks because they stop paying attention to the other drivers and only pay attention to themselves.
Could be in effect here as well.

Maybe that's because you drive sober most of the time.
Hallucinations after smoking CANNABIS? Man no wonder weed is illegal in so many places, people have no fucking clue what they're talking about.
