Probably because he couldn't actually give a single crap about what policy the country goes with. All he cares about is the political feasibility of it. So he went with the wall when it could help him get elected, and will drop it when it starts to get in the way.
I hope he flip-flops on this. The wall was a dumb idea to begin with.

Did some googling to check his original claim, which was a 60 pound sack of drugs being tossed over the wall. The wall is a huge waste of money so I hope he turns around completely on this whole thing. Good job on not wasting money on a stupid wall. They should spend that money on security measures that will work and reforming immigration.

Just a campaign booster I reckon, he has definitely seen the cost of it and has been given professional advise on it so I am sure he is just using it as an attempt to keep them low ratings just above negative
