The Islamic State terrorist group has shot down a warplane from the US-led coalition over northern Syria, a monitoring group said, with the jihadists claiming to have captured a Jordanian pilot.
'We have confirmed reports that IS members took a (non-Syrian) Arab pilot prisoner after shooting his plane down with an anti-aircraft missile near Raqa city,' the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Wednesday.
The Isis branch in Raqqa published photographs on jihadist websites purporting to show its fighters holding the captured pilot, with a caption identifying him as Jordanian.
Supposedly they're in possession of MANPADS.
it's sad, but he might as well have died in the plane crash. chances of ISIS letting the pilot go are slim, especially since they'd love to use him as an example of how 'mighty' they are, to spread even more terror.
ugh.
Poor guy. :(
You have to be pretty low (Less than 15,000ft) for man portable AAA to be effective.
Almost started talking about the title being fairly sensational, but... yeah, duh.
It must be fucking terrible, do you think he hoped to die in the crash to avoid retribution?
Fuck DAT
I hope they try to help the guy, intelligence/drones
Even trying would be nice
I hope he's rescued, whole.

There is literally no way that the guy is just being left to his fate, folks will be doing everything they can to find him and slaughter the folk holding him, remember the US has special forces over there and the SAS are dicking around in the desert too.

He's Jordanian, I don't think they're going to risk SF units to rescue someone that most of the western media and public couldn't care less about, as sad as it is
This news would be way more explosive in the media if the pilot was American, British, French, etc

Reminds me of the Christmas Crash map from Call of Duty 4...

Sf operations are not conducted on behalf of the media. Arab countries are needed to win the war, so if they are unhappy its not good for us.

There is no supposedly about it, they are and have been for while now. The worst part about it is the pilot more than likely never saw it coming since the MANPAD probably didn't trigger the missile warning tone.
The Best Part is the fact that Special Forces will give it their all to get him out of there. At the end of the day ISIS can't make up for all their losses due to airstrikes by capturing 1 pilot.

Losing fighters is a part of war. Many don't understand this because the US does their fighting for them, but it's reality.

They might do it due to the risk of losing the middle eastern component of the coalition which is pretty important in terms of politics.

Only American troops are capable of dying right? Can folk from the US cut it with this shit as if we expect you guys to get dicked instead of everyone else in our stead?
Even if the US/UK comes a-knockin they'd immediately put a bullet in his head anyway
As a pilot he's tripe fucked, the least we can do is hope that his passing isn't too painful
I think necromancy is a little out of their league.
We need a unit of Special Forces necromancers, this will be the greatest thing the United States has ever done.
The pilot was from Jordan. No one will care unfortunately.
Who the fuck names a device used to kill/destroy stuff a "MANPAD"?

It's an acronym for MAN Portable Air Defense
Who the fuck names a device used to kill/destroy stuff a "MANPAD"?
MANPADs (Man Portable Air Defense Systems) are not just one device, it's an assortment of them. They are Shoulder Fired Air to Surface Missile systems used against low altitude planes and or helicopters.
They range from basic heat seekers such as the FIM-92 Stingers and SA-18 Strelas to Line of Sight/Laser Guided British Blow Pipes and Javelins.
