Base model only has 2GB of RAM, not enough for a facebook machine in 2015.
Finally, you can use the Pro Pen. 90% of the reason why the Pro series has been so amazing.
Plus let's not forget it's not really being marketed at the typical casual consumer. The article even states that this Surface is aimed at business and education roll outs, where (apart from a few specialty programs and situations) not a whole lot of power is required. Even then, couple the attractive pricetag with the unique featureset and fantastic build quality and it's already a better machine than ~80% of its competition at that price range. Microsoft might have a real gem on its hands here if it plays it right (hint hint education discounts hint hint). Also it's not a laptop. It's a tablet that can do laptop things. Pretty big difference there, at least conceptually.
Got my current ultrabook 14 months ago, don't get me wrong I still love it but I used the surface 3 pro of my dad and it's really awesome. Not sure about this one though.
If this was priced $100 lower I'd be all over it. 2gb RAM is completely fine for basic browsing and such with Windows 8. Heck there are 7" W8.1 tablets that are "usable" with 1gb RAM.
