Dad wants a build, I offered to build it for him. He wants a quad core, and it needs to be green..... like, overkill green with lights and stuff. He also needs a heap of processing power for business like multitasking in 2 monitors. We have also have a seagate barracuda that we will be using for primary HDD, and an OS is required if vista will not work on the machine. oh and forgot to mention that we wants a boot ssd.
budget?
Give him yours and keep two of the GTX 470s for yourself. Then build yourself a machine that isn't stupid.
why would you buy barracuda when you can buy spinpoint
we already have it and it has his data, so we are saving hassle and money for a boot ssd. Programming, I suppose? [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Because it sounds like more an 500$ desktop, if it's for your parent.
Gaming or Programming? [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Because it sounds like more an 500$ desktop, if it's for your parent.
This. Guessing a 955 and a GTX 460 would be more than adequate. Also to make it green
Why the hell did I get rated dumb for asking for a budget? Surely there is a budget.
Why the hell did I get rated dumb for asking for a budget? Surely there is a budget.
Because the 'Bad Reading' rating is completely out [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] OP just need a graphic card with 2 connectors for monitors (like the GTX 460) mainly, everything else is not important
Why the hell did I get rated dumb for asking for a budget? Surely there is a budget.
look at the thread title dumbass
Programming, I suppose? [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Because it sounds like more an 500$ desktop, if it's for your parent.
He wants to play battle field bad company maxed out (Just one 1680x1050 monitor) And he needs processing power for work related issues and multitasking. So a CPU that can multi-task a lot.
GTX 460 768MB/1GB can handle this game, especially at this kind of resolution [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Phenom II X6 1055T should be enough for him [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Considering how good this processor is for multitasking/work related issues, and its cheap price (compared to i7 processors), it's generally a must-buy

Probably not the best choice, but I don't know much about motherboards and it's a good brand. Replace with advanced if you want. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 DVD drive. Won some customer choice award. I don't know anything about SSD's, I'm sure someone else can suggest one. :buddy:
OCZ Vertex 2 or Corsair F-series.
A 32-40 GB SSD is enough if his father just want to install Win 7, an anti-virus, some softwares in it. Considering the HDD may be an 500GB-1TB one, he can install games (and put all of his files) on the primary HDD [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] Nevertheless, an 60GB SSD may be a good choice
$1250 or £1250?
CAD = Canadian dollars
I got confused canadian dollars with computer aided design.
You don't need a hexacore and a 460 for cad, no way. Infact, you just don't need a hexacore, they're shit from amd. Just get a good quad from intel or amd.
Promise you won't blow up your PC this time. Your hobby is costing a lot of money that way.
I used to be a huge fanboy, here is a tip. don't
Nothing fanboy there, it's just hexacores from AMD suck for what you get, and what you should be getting, and even so, I said Intel or AMD, not saying one sucks and the other doesn't.
He doesn't use auto cad, if anyone in my family/business uses it then its me.
I messed up and thought the title meant Autocad not Canadian dollars v:v:v

He also can just use the standard GTX 460 from Asus, He isn't going to overclock either so he doesn't really need it the asus heatsink also suits the theme a little more. Thanks for the case near impossible to find a blank/black one. [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] mactrekkie you sorta undershot the budget :v: Ill just get him an i5 since I can get it in for under 1k and then use the rest for ssd and green fans. Thanks everyone. [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] oh wow I found an i7 and a mobo for it and Im only at 700$ holy shit [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] decided on this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131601&cm_re=asus_sabertooth-_-13-131-601-_-Product
Just because he has the money doesn't mean he has to use it, all he needs is a phenom x4 and a GTX 460. Also get the cyclone as it's quieter
mactrekkie you sorta undershot the budget :v: Ill just get him an i5 since I can get it in for under 1k and then use the rest for ssd and green fans. Thanks everyone.
You shouldn't be aiming to meet the budget, you should be trying to get under it, while still getting good price/ performance. You have serious issues with spending. Perhaps you building PCs is a bad thing. Just because you have the money doesn't mean it should be used all in one go.
Oh me filling out a budget is a bad thing, god you people are anal about money.
The fact is you are spending a lot more for components that your father will never find a single useful use with it [editline]10th November 2010[/editline] That why we recommend you AMD Phenom processors
He will in 2-4 years, he never changes his PC out unless he needs a new one.
Oh me filling out a budget is a bad thing, god you people are anal about money.
Why can't people get the simple logic behind the fact that spending less for great is better than spending too much for greater, with no reasons. Money is important, and you shouldn't spend it all in a damned computer if you can get something that'll last long and will do whatever you want for less. I know that kids don't understand that, but you should try to now.
