The 18-year-old was taken to hospital after collapsing in a street in Bexley, shortly after 23:15 BST on Saturday. He died two hours later. The Metropolitan Police said he was believed to have been drinking alcohol as well as ingesting legal high nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.
At first I was thinking it was an adverse reaction but clearly it's oxygen deprivation... If all you're doing is breathing balloon gas, you're going to collapse. [editline]27th July 2015[/editline] And I don't like how they're calling it a "legal high", when it's used in medical practice legitimately, this is just substance misuse tbh.
too much nitrous oxide deprives your body of B12 vitamin, which is crucial. If you don't have B12, you start to get nerve damage.
Wait, was he ingesting pure nitrous oxide? Fuck that's dangerous, the shit you get at the dentist is only 50% n2o, and even that usually gets diluted further. And even then there's a reason why dentistry rooms are ventilated to hell and back.
Won't be the last, it's everywhere over here at the moment.
I did this a few times, it's really dangerous because you don't realize how far away you are from passing out until you start leaning forward and your brain starts freaking out from losing its balance so suddenly. Real dangerous stuff.
Won't be the last, it's everywhere over here at the moment.
It's been everywhere forever this isn't a new thing, the press periodically chooses a drug to put the spotlight on and NOS appears to be that drug at the moment. NOS isn't that bad at all, it's relatively harmless but it is important to have people with you as the risk of injury comes from moving around or breathing in too long. To highlight how safe it is I think this is a pretty telling statistic:
Seventeen people in the UK died between 2006 and 2012 after taking the drug.
About 3 people per year, thats in the same league as the number of people who die from wasps
They're really fun. Which drives some people to do it in excess, but it's pretty harmless.
NOS itself is relatively harmless, the harm comes from forgetting to breathe or not breathing enough while taking it. Sure, ingesting a lot of NOS frequently leads to B12 deficiency but if youre having it at a party or something every now and again you will be fine (provided you breathe)
Class A drug RIGHT NOW. DO IT CAMERON YOU MADMAN
-snip-
It's crawling with them charges here in Manchester. Everywhere you look there's a used one.
I have at least 20 cartridges ready for the Australian Pink Floyd show next month. Gonna go buy some balloons

Parking lots near clubs are always completely filled with empty canisters afterwards. It's fun and pretty much harmless as long as you don't over do it but many people go too far with it.

they always do stories like this if they want something illegal, this isn't the first time some dumbass died from oxygen deprivation from forgetting to breath oxygen with these balloons it just smells really fishy
