This is just getting more and more ridiculous.
What the fuck, it was stated before (officially mind you) that their goals are being funded regardless. This seems wrong.
How are they going to even fund this on 10? If Shenmue 1 took 40 million(?) to make, Why ask for 2 mil. Why ask for 2 when you really need 10? Why is sony not funding this? This whole kickstarter just smells fishy to me.

Can't wait until Valve kickstarts HL3 for $10 million in order to "gauge interest."
I haven't played any of the games nor do I know much about them but seeing this is making me think this one is going to be a mere cash grab
Am I the only one who sees a bit a fault in this kickstarter. Most people who donate I'm assuming went for the free digital copy. That means after production, most who want the game will already have their copy and there is no sales profit post release.

Some like Star Citizen raised enough to kick them aside which might be the case here as well.
Heyo, free money! Some of you are acting as if he's stealing it from people, but in reality people are voluntarily giving him it and at the same time preordering a copy of the game. Actual post-production sales may reach into the millions, if successful.
This sounds REALLY shady especially if they're already receiving funding from Sony. Can't wait for the likes of EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, and Activision to jump on this bandwagon.

No offense, I don't think shenmue is a bad game saga. But I seriously wasn't expecting people to fund this much for this game. I may be wrong but, is really this game THAT good?

I personally never played it but Shenmue fans are as passionate about it as your average FFVII fan is for the remake. Imagine getting "Half Life 3" on kickstarter years after Valve (hypothetically) would have shut down.

Ahaha, who am I kidding, they'd probably throw their money at it anyways. Some way to "gauge interest" indeed.

It's a clusterfuck of bad messages all over the place due to the spontaneous controversy.
This is setting a bad precedent. I really don't like this.
"wow that 2 million was way easier than we thought, let's ask for more"

They wouldn't have given Shenmue 3 center fucking stage on their E3 conference if they weren't funding it. I'm an optimist but there is no way in hell I would believe Sony would do that ENTIRELY on "good faith." They wouldn't do it if they weren't getting something out of the deal.
Yeah, this sounds extremely fishy. They basically shown us nothing, they're only giving us promises, and on top of it all they're asking for more money. This doesn't sound good. Didn't the original games have an even higher budget?

http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=47805 Sony has already invested it's platform on the indie level and is considering this an indie game, so they reward the get is putting their name on the advertisement for a highly beloved series.
The Shenmue games are famous for being some of the most expensive games ever made. A lot of this had to do with the fact that it was cutting edge, and that back in those days EVERY game had its own custom made engine. The costs to make something like Shenmue these days are astronomically lower and wouldn't need nearly as much of a budget. They have funding lined up via Sony (A lot of big publishers like Kickstarter as a means to determine interest if they want to greenlight funding or not for a project), and I assume the 10million goal is something that they need to truely make it AAA in scope, to round off the funding they'd get from Sony. It is still quite a bit silly though.
the word fishy is overused in this thread
most of the funding is actually coming from the people going for the digital/physical copy.
