Army chief Viktor Muzhenko called in reporters for a special briefing designed to showcase what Kyiv hopes is irrefutable evidence of Russia's entanglement in the war in eastern Ukraine.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-32788413
Ukraine says it will prosecute two men it claims are elite Russian soldiers captured fighting in eastern Ukraine. The two wounded men were seized in the town of Shchastya, almost 30km (19 miles) from the Russian border. The head of Ukraine's security service has told the BBC there is proof the men are Russian troops. Russia said the two men were no longer serving soldiers. Rebels in eastern Ukraine said the men were policemen from Ukraine's Luhansk region. Vitaliy Naida, Ukraine's security chief, told BBC World News he was "absolutely positive" the men were officers from the GRU, the foreign military intelligence branch of Russia's army. "We have battle dress uniform, we have automatic rifles that are produced only in the Russian Federation only for Special Forces' use," he said. Mr Naida said the men were part of a group of 220 GRU officers deployed to Luhansk on 2 May. The others have now returned to Russia, he said. "We have already started a criminal case for a terrorist act," Mr Naida said. In a video, one of the captured men said he was a sergeant from the central Russian city of Togliatti, where an elite intelligence unit for the Russian army is based. The video has not been independently verified.
Maybe they just got lost?
just playing devil's advocate here, VSS and other 9x39 weapons that are supposedly only used by the Russian Federation have been found outside Russia for a while, even in Libya. This is all easily deniable by Russia.

The only other army that has VSS rifles is Belarus. Georgia has AS VAL rifles. The 9A-91 (carbine rifle used by police, internal forces) is used by Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, and Belarus. they were only taking a little trip to southern russia right? :)
Well I found two pieces of info from both sides of the spectrum, and it confirms one of the names of the captured as Aleksandr Anatolievich Aleksandrov. http://lugansk-news.com/i-am-a-soldier-of-russian-federation-full-translation-of-the-video-of-russian-pow-published-by-ukrainian-soldier/ and this, an English language publication from the LPR. Russian POW: Aleksandrov Aleksandr Anatolievich.

Yesterday, on 16 May, at about 13.00, near the line of demarcation on the Seversky Donets River, east of Veseloye, an enemy covert ops group attacked an observation post of the LPR people's militia. During the ensuing battle, Ukrainian soldiers wounded two of our servicemen, Yerofeyev Yevgeniy Vladimirovich and Alexandrov Alexander Anatolyevich, and took them captive. We assume that they’d torture them for further provocations.
And a military ID was found on him, listing his date of birth at Jaunary 7th, 1987. http://www.interpretermag.com/ukraine-live-day-456-ukraine-to-allow-osce-and-icrc-access-to-captured-russian-soldiers/ Using that info I found this vk profile. http://vk.com/id108173009 The only photo of his face though is blurry as all hell. So I can't really compare this guy on VK to the guy in the video, except that the search query on vk was pretty specific, this was the only guy with the same date of birth, name, and has had military service.
Could be Russian and in the LPR "people's militia".
That's what I was implying? Though I was giving both contexts of the story to try and identify him.
Using that info I found this vk profile. http://vk.com/id108173009
The funny thing is that the article claims he was captured on may 16, but this guy's last online time is the evening of may 17.

He was the only one who fit the query though, and I also couldn't clearly make out his face in that blurry photo.

People think my mom is on facebook 24/7 because she leaves her account logged in on her computer non stop so I don't think it's THAT much of a stretch to say something similar could have happened here.

"Please, I have to like that girl's photo before imprisoment!"
The funny thing is that the article claims he was captured on may 16, but this guy's last online time is the evening of may 17.
Probably left it on, or some else has his log on info.
Maybe they just got lost?
No. They had supplies
No. They had supplies
It's a joke. About a year or so ago, seven (I think) Russian VDV troops were captured by Ukranian soldiers, and they claimed they got lost on patrol near border. Was all sorts of hilarious.
Gosh that VSS is so pretty..
