Samsung Electronics is offering an upgrade program option to Galaxy Note 7 customers in South Korea who trade in their recalled device for a Galaxy S7 phone, marking its latest attempt to retain customers.
In a statement on Monday, Samsung said customers who trade in their Note 7 phone for either a flat-screen or curved-screen version of the Galaxy S7 can trade up for a Galaxy S8 or Note 8 smartphone launching next year through an upgrade program.
The world's top smartphone maker permanently ended Note 7 sales due to continued reports of fire from the flagship device. In addition to offering refunds or exchanges for a Galaxy S7 smartphone, Samsung has already offered financial incentives amounting to 100,000 won ($88.39) to affected customers in South Korea.
Users in the upgrade program will need to pay only half the price of a Galaxy S7 device, rather than the full amount, before exchanging to the S8 or the Note 8, Samsung said.
In offering the Note 8 upgrade option, Samsung indirectly reinforced previous statements that the Note series will not be discontinued. The company said the availability of such a program in other markets will be dependent on the situation in each country. It did not elaborate.

Yeah good luck, I think the Note brand is fucked after this, the sales are gonna be terrible
Dunno, lots of brands have exploded and been just fine right after like ford f-150s (burning down houses too lol)
That's good to hear, since they're great phones, and I know somebody who buys the Note exclusively since they use the stylus feature heavily, and they'd be out of luck as far as I know if the line was discontinued, not including a rebranding anyway.
I love my note 3, I actually wanted to get the new note. now I'll wait for the newer note to hopefully be better and not have those problems and get that instead.
Good job Samsung!

Despite the few people saying this I don't see it as true.
Well, if Note dies after this at least it went out with a bang

A big and bloody bang in some cases.
The US should do a intel op with cellphones akin to what they did back in the vietnam war with ammunition set to explode or malfunction.
So they basically leave a couple of boxes laying around some place near ISIS full of them, and then when some ISIS douchebag stumbles upon them and celebrates the victory by handling them out to his brothers in arms, obviously, the greedy as fuck leaders of their teams would claim them for themselves.
Now its a matter of time before they explode in their faces.

More of a fizzle and some smoke followed by the phone catching fire. The batteries don't actually explode. Journalists just love putting that in the headline to get more views
"We'll just need to make it thinner next time around" :downs:
Looking forward to going back to a Note. Despite having it recalled twice and dealing with that shit show I really miss my Note 7.
I've heard people at school talking about this, and I have to say I find it funny that people really think something like this would stop an entire line of smartphones. Imagine if that happened to iPhones, would apple then stop making iPhones?

Even after the recent (within a year or two?) iPhone 7 shenanigans of them bending I think Apple was quicker to resolving the issue than Samsung.
That and they finally learned that thinner != better.
