So, my computer overheated today and I sure as hell want to make it so that never happens again. Here are my specs:
MoBo: MSI 870-G45
Graphics: Radeon HD 6850
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
What type of cooling fan or heatsink should I buy to keep it cool? Not really sure what would be compatible with my computer and I'd rather not take any chances.
Oh and I was playing a GameCube emu when it happened....
Did the GPU or CPU overheat?
Not really sure... That's why I posted what I was doing. It just shut off and didn't tell me anything afterward. Pretty sure it was the CPU though.

Random shutdown doesnt have to be overheating.
Download HW monitor, and keep it one while play the game this occurred in for 10 minutes.
Post results.
I know it overheated... I was playing SSB Melee and it reached about 212 degrees Fahrenheit... I use Core Temp all the time and it shows my comps temp on the taskbar. Oh, and this is my case.
did you by any chance ever taken out the Cpu Cooler and never re applied the thermal compound
No, I've never replaced it with the first one that I bought.
Dust it out. And put on some new thermal paste then.
