• AMD Phenom Speed and Temperature problems?

Current Build: CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor ; With Stock Fan. 8 gigs of RAM(DDR3) GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870 Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16813131646 Old Build: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz ; With Stock Fan 3 gigs of RAM(I think DDR2) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Mobo: ? I don't really know what to think atm My CPU is stuck at 79-81° C. The temperature stays the same regardless of whether I'm idle with little to no programs open, or when I'm playing games. It's also very slow. It used to be fast for like the first week I had it, but now it isn't. I've had it for about 3 months now. My old PC was much faster in every way. I can run games like Lol, Gmod, and Portal 2 with a solid 60 fps. Now, I'd be lucky to get even 45+ fps. Has anyone had this problem before? I need help, I don't know if it's my whole computer, or my CPU itself. I've tried googling this problem, but haven't found an answer. I don't know what other info you guys might need.
It could be overheating, I had the same problem with mine. Check to make sure you have proper ventilation inside the case and a good amount of thermal paste.
Make sure the cooler is mounted properly. They're tricky and even the smallest gap will make the CPU warmer.
Something doesn't sound right there at all (Phenom II's normally run lovely and cool). Did you apply thermal paste when building? Might be worth getting the fan off and repasting with some Arctic Silver or something.
Yeah, I have the cpu fan mounted correctly and the thermal paste was already pre applied with it.

The heatsink is installed improperly, a CPU doesn't just start generating more heat like that.
Actually, my heatsink is installed incorrectly now that I think about it. When I was putting the cpu fan on, I couldn't get the brackets on both sides. It'd either latch onto one side, or the other. I asked my friend and he said he had the same problem, he just had one latched and the other one hanging out, and he just left it like that. So i did the same. His CPU doesn't heat up like mines though.
That is exactly your problem. Don't ask your friend for advice, and RTM.
