The Dvorak keyboard is a keyboard layout designed especially for ergonomics, whereas qwerty was designed to slow people down when typing on typewriters. Apparently switching to the Dvorak can double your typing speed.

check it out.
Why was qwerty meant to slow you down? I have heard this before, but why did they design a keyboard if it would be counter-productive?
Looks uncomfortable.

Slow mechanics.
I'm sitting on 118 WPM with 100% accuracy, I don't need to switch, but thanks anyway.
i'd rather not
for a start you can't game on it without wasd and i highly doubt you're going to enjoy mapping the keys to it for every game you play

It's not like I dont anyway, being a lefty.
Going from QWERTY to this wouldn't seem like a wise idea.

why dont you make that 236 wpm?
I don't like how the vowels are all squashed together.
The Dvorak Simplified Keyboard (pronounced /ˈdvɔræk/) is a keyboard layout patented in 1936 by Dr. August Dvorak and his brother-in-law, Dr. William Dealey. Over the years several slight variations were designed by the team led by Dvorak or by ANSI. These variations have been collectively or individually also called the Simplified Keyboard or American Simplified Keyboard but they all have come to be commonly known as the Dvorak keyboard or Dvorak layout. Dvorak proponents claim the Dvorak layout uses less finger motion, increases typing rate, and reduces errors compared to the standard QWERTY[1] keyboard. This reduction in finger distance traveled was originally purported to permit faster rates of typing, but in later years is also purported to reduce repetitive-strain injuries, including carpal tunnel syndrome.
Look at third row from the left.
Moonbase Alpha.
Dvorak definitely seems better, but I already know QWERTY, and that took me a long-ass time to master. So I'm going to stick with it.

Keyboards were invented for mechanical typewriters, not computers.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
seems like it could make playing Moonbase Alpha a lot easier, since you can aeiou with just one hand now.

UGH, I would have to spend about 20 seconds configuring it every time I install a new game, which is at least once every two months. What a hassle!
I'm fine with qwerty. I know it, I type fast with it. Plus learning a whole new one will be annoying.
they made qwerty to slow you down back in the day because people would type too fast on typewriters and the keys would jam
Eh, I never properly learned how to use QWERTY in the first place so I have my own way of using it. Trying to switch to that would pretty much kill me. So I think I'll stick with the good ol' classic.

QWERTY does not slow you down nor was it designed to. The only experiments on this subject that I know of were...well, not very scientific. DVORAK, while a nice standard with its own benefits, is in no way significantly better than QWERTY, and definitely not worth switching except to say that you can type fluently with a DVORAK keyboard.

The list goes on. Basically, use whatever keyboard you prefer.
I am too used to the qwerty keyboard to change.
Dvorak is a really cool name.
I am not a professional speedwriter and I am perfectly fine with my current typing speed, thanks.
only nerds use dvoark
fucken fag

This is like going from cutting your nails(QWERTY) to cutting your eyeballs(Dvorak). It just won't work.
It would suck to get used to typing dvoark when the world is dominated by qwerty. Every time you went to a library or school you'd have to struggle with remembering how you used to type. It would really only be a good idea to switch if there was a large scale change to this format.
op, I just want to say that

hey, look to the left of this text
yeah that's right, feel the burn
if I put the keys in different places my fingers will move to them faster
yeah i suppose its not useful if no people adopt it.
