I cover my webcam, as well. I don't want some random hacker looking at me. I don't cover my microphone, though.
Why is this news ? A lot of laptops have webcam covers. Macs should have them too.
Why is this news ? A lot of laptops have webcam covers. Macs should have them too.
Probably because it's kind of ironic how the CEO of an arguably privacy-invading corporation is worried about his privacy.

Besides he's kind of an important person so there probably isn't a lack of people trying to hack his shit.
Slow news day
I mean there's literally leaked slides that the NSA do mass collect images from webcams. Why wouldn't you have a physical cover for it.
because facebook is one of many companies in bed with the nsa?
I don't cover my webcam, I just have it facing the wall. Also there's no reason for me to cover my mic, either. The NSA is gonna have to enjoy hearing me curse, laugh, and/or masturbate.
I cover my webcam, as well. I don't want some random hacker looking at me. the real question is what webcams are on the market that physically can't operate without also turning on the notification LED
i bet he wears a tinfoil hat
honestly in his position I'd be paranoid over that kind of stuff
If you really think there are hackers looking at you then you might want to cover up your microphone so one of these hackers doesn't decide to blackmail you with any incriminating soundbites.
I doubt that there are hackers watching me because I am not an important person or a celebrity. I just cover it in case some random hacker hacks into my computer. I've only been hacked once (as far as I know). My computer has been infected several times, though. Well, the most a hacker will get out of me is me complaining about course work and the huge amount of assignments that the instructors mercilessly give us. He/she will also hear a lot of video games and music. I rarely say anything incriminating because I don't like to be involved in that stuff. I also rarely talk about politics; I keep my opinions to myself. Anyway, my desktop is my main machine and it doesn't have a built-in mic. I also haven't connected a webcam to it. Let me clarify my previous post; I cover my laptop's webcam. I rarely use my laptop; I usually use it at university or when I am traveling.
I don't cover my webcam, I just have it facing the wall..
Most modern laptops have a built-in webcam.
This isn't some unreasonable paranoia, I don't prescribe to it personally, but he's not being some crazy person, especially considering his position in the tech world.
Considering the difficulty of actually turning off the web camera is nigh on impossible since Apple does not provide any tool to turn it off, it's no wonder Mark would actually tape it shut.
the real question is what webcams are on the market that physically can't operate without also turning on the notification LED
Plenty, really. Nowadays they aren't all just soldered to the power to the cam like they used to be.
i have my webcam disabled in the bios ever since I saw the HW light flicker on and off real quick.
I get the feeling that this is supposed to be interesting because it's a guy who is supposed to be famous for being like a tech god and he's using such a low tech solution but really this is a very standard security measure. It's the only way to know for sure you're webcam isn't watching.

And then you don't have a webcam at all.
And then you don't have a webcam at all.
Resolder it when you need to use it.
And then you don't have a webcam at all.
Who uses webcams? We're all fucking hideous monsters, no one wants to see our faces.
Who uses webcams? We're all fucking hideous monsters, no one wants to see our faces.
youre wrong hackers want to see our faces :D poor them lol
Did no one else notice "Mark Zuckerbeg"?
Because of this,i instantly use label to cover my camera
I cover my webcam, as well. I don't want some random hacker looking at me.
Probably because it's kind of ironic how the CEO of an arguably privacy-invading corporation is worried about his privacy.
In a sense - the owner of a billion value company will have more reasons to be worried about his privacy and what ramifications it might have for him to do.
tape over a mic isn't going to do anything but muffle it a little, would still be able to make out what you're saying
I just put a sticker over the webcam on my mac cuz it's just creepy to have a camera looking at me
