• PS1 - Spindle hub problem, color

So I have been wanting to fix my PS1 for a while now. It turns on and everything - but the spindle hub doesn't have pads in them anymore, so the disc doesn't spin as fast as the hub. Any ideas on a DIY fix here? Buying replacements would require me to pay the shipping, and that's not really cheap. I was thinking about cutting up a rubber and using them as pads. and my other problem is actually fairly simple, my PS1 is no longer its original color, it's a bit orangeish. any chemical I could swipe on it to return its color? even if just a little?
To be honest, it's probably cheaper to purchase a new PSX. They're going dirt cheap on eBay and most of 'em come with controllers + games. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.XpsX&_nkw=psX&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Also in addition to the above post, have you considered emulation? Pretty much any device can run Playstation 1 games easily these days, and the PC emulator epsxe even allows you to run the game at native screen resolution. You can use your playstation 1 games on CDs with it too, you just need a controller
Yes, I have considered both options - however, it's a SCPH-1001, so it's a tad bit rare. I know about emulation, I do it all the time - but for some odd reason there's just not that exact feeling that I have by playing with a PS1 - maybe it's just a placebo effect or whatever. I have replaced the spindle hub with a random CD player's hub that I found in my closet, disc is unbalanced but it works, for now. any ideas on getting the original color back?

It's never the same running an emulator, no matter how much you jazz it up, it just won't beat bootup sequences like this and the sound of the disc spinning in that grey, plastic casing:

There is a way to treat it with something called "Retr0brite" http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/Retr0Bright+Gel
