anyone?
Make sure your copy of Windows is activated.
MSE or MSN?
So you mean that you double click it, and then nothing happens?

Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft's own new and "improved" somewhat forced anti-virus/malware/trojan software.

It's not bad though - actually I like it a lot.

What are you onto? It's the best A/V I've had, ever.
Use avast!
Gotta say MSE is the best one I've had..
Anyway, before I installed my MSE, I had AviraAntivirus, it was all bugged and shit, so I had to use CCleaner-tool to remove old antivirus, then ran up MSE and my PC was fine once again.
It seems that I need the latest service pack. I have SP1 right now. I need to update it to 3. Problem is I ran the update for SP2 yesterday night and the bar hasn't moved one bit. Can someone tell what exactly I'm doing wrong

How's it forced?

i may have been thinking of the wrong thing, though in the same vain, but whatever MsMpEng.exe "AntiMalware Service Executable" is doesn't close, i can right click and close it from the task bar or I can end the process in the task manager, and it still comes back. can't find anything for how to disable it either.
it's just my preference, really, i prefer no antivirus, i can't even remember the last time i had a virus or trojan or whatever
MSE doesn't even come preinstalled when you buy a pre-built. I don't think that process/service has something to do with MSE.
it does, just went into the control panel and that little blue house with the blue flag was there. when i close from the task mar, with the task manager open, that process momentarily goes away, and then it comes back a second later.

Looks like it is actually something that comes installed with Windows Vista or installs itself when you install Windows Defender. Neither of which is all that related to MSE.

Every AV I've used does the same so malware can't just end the process and you be screwed.

it's Windows 7, and wasn't there when I got it, and no it's not a prebuilt.

Oh, I know that, but I don't need it, and don't want it.

again, preference, might seem silly, but that's what most preferences are, silly.

but then i found mse and it just runs in the background and uses no resources, etc. so it just adds that bit more of safety
-snip-
The service name is Microsoft Antimalware Executable. If it bugs you that much, you have a control panel option for it.
Though the fact that you run without an AV is kind of stupid - even if you yourself make damn sure you don't go anywhere virus ridden, and haven't actually had a virus in years or whatever, doesn't mean one won't work it's way in somehow (such as a popular site getting hijacked). And if your buddy who isn't as virus-aware as you are plugs his flash drive into your computer...
Nice to have an anti-virus installed as good "Shit Happens" insurance.
shit happens, yeah
but not to me :clint:
