16 GB download :gonk:
Smaller than Napoleon which was almost 25GB and the original Empire which was I think nearly 20GB.
Gah, I am so disappointed that they went back to this instead of advancing forward in time from empire.
We could have had trench warfare, or WWII, instead we have guys in wooden armor poking each other with wooden sticks over land that not only sucks so hard that it can't afford metal armor or weapons for most of its people, but is so regularly devastated by natural disasters that their entire society and architecture design takes it into account.
Such a waste.
Then again their combat model has been pathetic since day one, so I doubt that they could have even managed anything interesting.
I wish another developer would totally copy the total war turn based meta game and use it in an interesting conflict.

inb4 "lol trench foot hurp durp"
But seriously, I agree with you 100%.
Has anyone ever made a WWI RTS or at least a WW1 game?

There was a WW1 mod for HL and it was fun. And there is going to be a WW1 mod for Company of Heroes.

You can't really do large scale WW2 style combat in real time though, I had a hard enough time microing in Company of Heroes.
Besides its cool to go back to medieval style warfare after 2 games of muskets.
total (american) civil war?
Finally.

Thats what patches are for, I assume that a game developer cant possibly know what the end user specifically wants on first release.

On the other hand, the Pacific theater of operations would have been perhaps a interesting choice with the naval combat and island invasions and all. But other than that advancing into the twentieth century and beyond would be difficult, that's just what I think though.
World War I would of been incredibly boring. All you'd do in a battle would be to leave all your infantry in a trench for a few hours, and as soon as they go over the top the infantry on the other side will instantly destroy them. However of course you'd have artillery, but they really wouldn't do much except for tanks would be easy targets for them. Is it hard to understand this as the reason most battles in World War I were stalemates?
World War II wouldn't work with the Total War formula, everything would be squad based, not regiment based. I suppose World War II would be plausible in some respects but we've already had games such as Company of Heroes and World in Conflict explore these ideas. I actually wouldn't mind CA making a World War II one if they innovate on World in Conflict.

You don't know fucking shit about WW1. "HURP ALL THEY DID WAS SIT IN A TRENCH AND ROT TO DEATH HURPDY DURP"
Why do people have such a hard time imagining a WW1 game? Have you people no creative thought?

The average person thinks WWI was a regional conflict in France and Belgium. Russia and the Arab Revolt did not exist in their minds.
The Total War formula is unsuited for conflicts after the late 19th century. When the industrial age military and society, operational art, the fact that wars are no longer won by a few decisive battles alone, and other bits of contemporary warfare are brought in you're going to need something different from the turn-based metagame with real-time battles format.
What I want to see is a developer to bring all the good stuff out of wargames like Steel Panthers MBT and Combat Mission into a large-scale RTT/RTS for the mainstream audience. A change to other settings would be nice, like the Arab-Israeli Wars of the '60s-'70s with their massive tank battles, or the ultimate NATO vs Warsaw Pact with the potential for the largest mechanized operations ever imagined.
Anyone played any of John Tiller's operational-level wargames? His game format could be adapted for a Total War-esque game 1900-onwards.

You can, you just need to program AI subordinates that actually can think like commanders. Otherwise problems like micromanagement aren't an issue. Ever heard of chain of command? There's a reason why a battalion commander gives orders to his subordinate company commanders, and not the dozen or more squad leaders three levels down the command chain.

To be honest there seem to be quite a lot of WW2 games as it is. Haven't seen any japanese or even asian war theme. Looking forward to this though.

I always wanted Shogun or Rome to be remade with a new shiny coat of paint since they were my favorite in the series along with Medieval so I'm actually pretty glad they did Shogun 2, though it would be pretty neat to have another timeline again after this.
Also there was another Total War-esqe game made by Enigma Software Productions set in World War II where you could play as any of the 7 leaders of the major nations in World War II and has a conquest campaign like Total War too. It was called War Leaders: Clash of Nations

Still WWII If that is correct. Not older time line.

Wow you are stupid.
WW1 had like 2 stalemate battles near the end of the fucking war.
Every battle was a bloodbath, and the eastern and african fronts as well.
I left this on over night to pre-load, I guess they unlocked it around 3am so then steam tried to unlock the incomplete game. Trying to verify the cache results in steam closing. Thanks, now I have to uninstall and download the game again. Fucking piece of shit steam.
This owns, been playing it for 6 hours and its probably the best total war yet
Downloaded the demo last night then I went to sleep. Going to try it later.
