• Texas man finds his car 42 years after it was stolen
(CNN) -- It was a reunion more than four decades in the making. Almost 42 years after Robert Russell' s prized 1967 Austin-Healey sports car was stolen, he has it back, thanks largely to his own detective work. Off and on for years, Russell, who lives in Texas, trolled the Internet looking for his vehicle, which was stolen in 1970 from his home at the time in Philadelphia. He finally struck gold, finding what looked to be his car being sold on eBay and kept at a dealership in East Los Angeles. Russell spoke with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, enlisting its help. All those years later, he still had the car's title that listed its vehicle identification number (VIN), which matched the VIN on eBay. But there was one last catch. The car was not registered in the National Crime Information Center, an electronic clearinghouse of crime data. So over the next few weeks, Russell and Sheriff's Detective Carlos Ortega were in touch with the police in Philadelphia. As it turned out, the car's VIN was incorrectly recorded at the time of the theft. The error was corrected, and Ortgea was able to go to the dealership and confirm the car was, in fact, the one that was stolen. He took possession of the vehicle, which in its current condition is estimated to be worth around $23,000, according to the sheriff's department. Russell and his wife later arrived in Los Angeles to pick up the car -- righting a wrong after 42 years.
Source: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/16/us/california-stolen-car/index.html?hpt=hp_bn1
It's probably worth twice as much now too
"He took possession of the vehicle, which in its current condition is estimated to be worth around $23,000, according to the sheriff's department." Not really worth THAT much, but still nice to have back.
It's now worth: priceless. Pass it down the family, along with the story.

how is that only $22 000?
I don't know much about cars, so I'll have to call in my buddy who's an expert. Ok, my buddy says it's worth 22,000... I'll give you 500 dollars. I mean there's not really much of a market for this sort of thing...I'd probably have to stay in my shop for months before it sells, and I don't have a lot of room in my shop...

Nice, that's cool that he got reunited with that car after all those years.
You can acutally buy classic cars cheaply. A few classic only dealers sell 1970 dodge challengers starting at 20k fully refurbished ofcourse not with all the bells and whistles but the fact they start at 20k it's amazing. The difference though is all the missing safety features and conviences of newer cars. Buy one for 20k, install modern disc brakes and better suspension if not already done in the refurb and you got an awesome car
Silly media, that's not the right verb!
LOL they said trolled that must mean the only thing it can mean!!
Huh funny, I just saw an episode on Pawn Stars where they bought one of these.
"Yeah, it's my car. Want me to prove it? There should be some weed in a brown paper bag stuffed up under the dash still."

Fuckin' sweet. Hope that man gets more enjoyment out of it now than he ever did when it was new.
The difference though is all the missing safety features and conviences of newer cars.
Just gives it character....though I would retrofit front disc brakes, aircon and a modern radio. But that's it.
