Today, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same. Join all of us to stop this bill.

Website Blocking The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.
This means that websites like Facebook and even possibly all of our favorite forums could be shut down. We really need to contact our representatives and voice our opinions. Source and website to e-mail representatives
Oh hey look, another one of these.
Oh hell no. Government don't fuck with my internet.
Oh hell no. Government don't fuck with my internet.
Chill, they've tried doing this in numerously different ways. Will be declared unconstitutional.
Oh piss off and focus on something important
Hopefully this Bill won't pass. I doubt it has much a chance anyway.
Chill, they've tried doing this in numerously different ways. Will be declared unconstitutional.
Yeah... I suddenly remembered how terrible it went last time this happened after I posted.
If it does pass, at least I still have my porn.
I'm too paranoiad because the protect ip was pushed through the senate in spring, and this appearing now? Oh man....
Anyone that supports this bill is supporting censorship, diminishing the rights of the people for corporate greed and should go move to china if they want this type of shit. I used to work in corrections and this isn't the type of "crime" that should be a felony let alone send someone to state prison. Our system is overloaded enough as it is, we don't need people who are not even criminals in prison and to be exposed to that environment. It would clog up the system even more and cost tax payers more money. I laugh at all the companies that cry piracy hurts their businesses but yet they brag about highest bonuses ever and profits.
SOPA means Scum/loser in Swedish :v:

Basically a scare tactic. Convict a couple people, get them to pay enormous fines, deter other people from pirating. Disabling websites is also a plus.
The good thing is that the opposition has the advantage when it comes to bill creation. If people make enough noise I'm sure it'll get killed somewhere. [sp]Hopefully.[/sp]
one of the few steps toward a modern totalitarian movement
Download everything infringing... preserve the interwebs
Prisoner 1: What are you in for? Prisoner 2: I decapitated children then had sex with their severed heads. You? Prisoner 1: I streamed a movie.
You can't stop piracy, give up.
SOPA means Scum/loser in Swedish :v:
it also means soup in Spanish and Portuguese :v:
I can't wait to go to jail, guys
If this passes I predict a huge rush on domain names that aren't .com and other ones that are administered in the US
lol sopa. sopa in spanish is soup
lol sopa. sopa in spanish is soup
wow hahahaha that's so hilarious tell me more
'Merica fuck yeah!
One day they're going to do something so stupid and push all avid internet users over the edge.
I'm surprised how little attention SOPA has got here compared to other sites. Editorialise and linkbait the title of this thread. Nobody is going to click on "SOPA - Stop Online Piracy" while thinking it's probably anything other than another RIAA/etc. attempt at doing whatever other failed attempt at whatever the hell they do. Hey look Canadians: http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111114/03594616763/canadians-realizing-that-their-websites-will-get-swept-up-sopa-censorship.shtml
Fuck. The. RIAA. There is no way to stress how much I hate them. Our entire internet is going to be neutered, firewalled, and locked-down because those whiny assholes want to drag us back 20 years and pretend the internet never happened. Hollywood and the music business are still making obscene piles of money, and you can't prove that anybody in the industry is living a significantly poorer lifestyle because of the internet. Get with the times and stop lobbying Congress to legislate people back into spending money in record stores. You can't undo change.
wow hahahaha that's so hilarious tell me more
Gato in Spanish is cat.
Guess it's no wonder we oppose this idea of stopping piracy when pirating is so easy even a child can be an actual pirate.
