Ubisoft's CEO: Whatever the NX is "a fantastic machine", Working on Games For It
Ubisoft has a history of strong support for Nintendo systems, and it was one of the few third parties to have an original, exclusive game at launch for Wii U in ZombiU. CEO Yves Guillemot has now spoken about that support and shared some thoughts on Nintendo's upcoming NX.
During a Ubisoft presentation attended by GameSpot today, Guillemot discussed disruptions in the hardware business, of which there are many right now: new Xbox One and PS4 systems, NX, and VR.
Regarding NX, he said, "The new Nintendo [console] is a fantastic machine. It's really a new approach, it's really Nintendo, [which is] coming with something new again. We love it." The system is rumored to be a handheld/console hybrid, a possibility that The Pokemon Company recently lent credence to.
As for disruptions overall, Guillemot suggested Ubisoft doesn't mind them because they provide it with the chance to try something new.
"We always take disruptions on the positive side," he said. "We think each time that it's an opportunity for our creators to take more risks. When a machine is installed, there are a certain number of brands that take up the time of players, so they're going to buy the next Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty. Even if they say, 'I'm interested in what you're doing,' at the end of the day they first buy what they know, then go somewhere else.
We spoke with Guillemot after the event, and he expressed concern with the agility and ability to take risks it would lose if Vivendi's hostile takeover moves forward. A game like ZombiU--an original game for the unproven Wii U--seems like a prime example of the kind of thing it was only able to do because it was an independent company. We already know Just Dance is coming to NX, and Guillemot confirmed to GameSpot that Ubisoft is "working on some [other] projects" for the console.
Maybe they'll release a new Rayman in NX? Oh god I hope it's Beyond Good and Evil 2. I would kill for that sequel.
I take everything ubisoft says with a hefty dose of salt. Seeing they're awfully quick to change their minds on stuff and backpedal like champs.
Plus everything they made for the Wii U has been ported by now
All hype and no substance, how about something concrete?
It's going to be the best bi monthly curated box of snacks, the future of gaming!

Now I need to play through every Rayman game again...
Just give us an official reveal already for fucks sake. We have all these devs talking about how grand it is and we don't even know what kind of console its going to be

At least the original ZombiU is still the best version of the game compared to the PS4/Xbone and even PC ports. 'Zombi' was watered down so hard to account for the lack of GamePad.
So its a magical device with specs on par with the ps4/xbox one and is also backwards compatible with wii u games and presumably 3ds too?
Alright good luck.

And you're getting that information from where exactly?
not surprising, ubisoft always puts blind faith in new game systems
And you're getting that information from where exactly?
I think he assumes the first part because Ubi is saying they'll support the NX, despite the fact that such a quote probably means "Too many games are past the point of being ported right now, but we have games in the pipeline that are exclusive." The second is probably about how the NX will "bridge the gap between console and handheld," but this probably means there'll be a lot of ports.
More on topic, I'm not surprised, Ubisoft was possibly the only third party developer who continued to support the wii u rather than drop it immediately- sure, they ported the two biggest games eventually, but that was probably expired exclusivity agreements more than anything else. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Where do you think they said that? They said it's going to be a fantastic machine, not the performance would rival other current gen consoles. It could be that they've come up with some innovative new hardware although tbh I think nintendo's idea of innovation is pretty hit or miss. I think the idea of a hybrid console could be a good direction due to nintendo's strong home presence but I'll wait to judge until more details are out

I mean the only exclusive thing they made for the WiiU that was relevant was ZombiU and it's super obvious they haven't cared about the game since a while after release. I mean fuck, apparently the non-WiiU releases are full of bugs that have been there since the WiiU version.

Are we talking about every Ubisoft trailer or this recent statement on the NX? :v:
Hope EA and Activision gets in the NX train and keep it running with games

I honestly don't see that happening- those companies have PS4 and XB1 in the palm of their hands, and want Nintendo to do the same. Remember when Origin was pushed to be the end all be all internet network for the Wii U? Thoughts are that Nintendo doesn't want to be pushed around like that, and such business deals probably won't come to fruition (though I'm sure a few games will slip in)
What I do see, however, is a bunch of japanese developers pushing the NX, especially if Nintendo keeps supporting it- if those companies can get their console games into a handheld device, where their home market is more likely to play it, I'm sure they'll jump at the chance of it. Hell, Sega and Squeenix have already pledged future support with Sonic 17 and DQ8, and I think once the thing is officially announced that others will follow suit.

Unless Nintendo backs down to EA's want for the console to boot Origin I doubt EA's involvement with Nintendo will ever happen again.
