I like this card a lot and it's currently the card I am going for, the benchmark shows that it's the one with the best performance, best cooling and lowest noise.
Does anyone have any troubles with it?
I heard of a few people having trouble with coil whine, but doesn't some of ALL cards?
Any cons to this card?
their god awful tech support
other than that it's a fine card, but if something is wrong be prepared for hell
I read a rumor that gigabyte cherry picks their 970's to try to ensure they are only sellings the high quality ones.

I have never had issues with Gigabytes tech support

This is what is always rumored about every company. It's never accurate. OEMs don't need to special bin their cards for the modest overclocks they put on them.
I have never had issues with Gigabytes tech support
i believe Makol needed to return a product, and they refused without the original box.
i tried to RMA a motherboard, and after nearly 3 weeks without a reply they finally sent another one out, only to be defective again.
their support is garbage, never had a decent time with them ever.

Tech support in general is an extremely ymmv situation. I personally have had zero issues with Gigabyte's tech support, and rate it among some of the best I've encountered.
well i wont be back to gigabyte ever personally.
EVGA is all i ever buy now, if i cant go EVGA then MSI be my 2nd choice.
+1 on the EVGA
I refuse to buy a Gigabyte card after the hell I went through on an HD 7970.
The first card was nearly dead on arrival. It would artifact on the desktop and 3D games were unplayable as the screen just turned into a million triangles flying around the screen.
I got an RMA to get a second card and they had the audacity to send me a horrible refurb card. It was so bad that they actually left huge blobs of solder flux all over the back of the board and the heatsink shroud and fans were scratched and cracked in several places. Obviously the card didn't work at all and actually started smoking, I'm assuming from a short somewhere by the horrible solder work.
I then demanded a refund and they tried to screw me with that scammy "AMD 3-n-1" game voucher. The voucher has a value of 1 cent when they sell it to you with the card, but they tried to subtract the equivalent retail value of $150 from the price I paid for the card, which I wasn't having any of. I never used the voucher and made sure it was in mint condition so they didn't have any excuses.
I eventually got my money back but it was an extreme pain in the ass.
I recommend XFX if they make a 970. Even though you pay a bit more, they usually have a lifetime warranty on the card if you register it on their website. ASUS is a second choice, and I can't recommend EVGA either because of terrible cards I've got from them in the past.
I haven't had an issue with my GA-z68x-UD3H-B3 mobo, or my old HD 6850 (now replaced by an EVGA 970.) I think the only problem I had is the GSATA ports not working reliably and I'm not so sure now but I think it was an issue with that generation and model of SATA controller, not Gigabyte. The other 6 or so ports work great.

But, EVGA is now really top tier for cards, so I feel bad that you've gotten crap, how was their support?
ive had nothing but amazing experiences from EVGA support.
I want to petition xfx
gimme my double lyfetime warranties back XFX

I didn't have to deal with their support since I bought the card from a brick and mortar store. One of the cards I had in the past needed the heatsink/fan replaced a half dozen times because the fan bearing kept seizing up. I also had awful problems with their stock overclock causing overheating and artifacting.
This was over a decade ago and they probably changed since then, but I usually don't give a manufacturer a second chance when I have to go through hell with them once.
As said they are now a top brand. I'm sure if you talked to them they would have been more than happy to oblidge and help. You got it from a 3rd party and it failed. Don't blame them for that. Give them 2nd chance you won't be disappointed

Hardware failure is a manufacturing issue, not a where you purchase it from issue; Unless it was damaged during shipping and this wasn't the case.
I may try them in the future, but I already have an XFX R9 280x and aren't in the market for another GPU for at least another several years.
Well with XFX you're set either way.
And perhaps 10 yrs ago they were worse, and you just happened to get a dud. I'm sure failure rates were probly higher then.
Just installed my gigabyte 970 and its awesome so far. Didn't realize the gigabyte logo on the side lit up, thought that was cool since my led's are all blue anyways.
Also it doesn't have the coil whine the Zotac 970 I returned had! Love this card so far.

Just curious, which Gigabyte 970 did you get?

10 years ago was in the glory days of terrible manufacturers and the capacitor plague. There were still a select few good manufacturers in those days but it was slim pickings.
Must be good, as soon as it's restocked on eBuyer, it sells out within a few hours.
Or they're just not getting enough stock for demand.
