The walkout occurred Wednesday on the set of "The Ridiculous Six" near Las Vegas, New Mexico, according to the Indian Country Today Media Network. The script called for native women's names such as "Beaver's Breath" and "No Bra" and an actress portraying an Apache woman to squat and urinate while smoking a peace pipe, ICTMN reported. "When I began doing this film, I had an uneasy feeling inside of me and I felt so conflicted. ... We talked to the producers about our concerns. They just told us, 'If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave,' " said Allison Young, a Navajo and one of the actors who left the set. "Nothing has changed," she told ICTMN. "We are still just Hollywood Indians."
Movie sounds pretty lowball.
Movie sounds pretty lowball.
Adam Sandler is of course well known for his sophisticated and thoughtful comedies.
No change from the usual shite they churn out. Almost as bad if not worse than the stupidly racist asian character in Norbit.
"The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of -- but in on -- the joke."
it's ok guys, they're only satirizing racism
Happy Madison is a machine that produces cash vacuums anyway, hardly a film production company any more
Has any other studio ever had as many critically panned films?
it's ok guys, they're only satirizing racism
"it was just a prank" - Sandler's official statement
an actress portraying an Apache woman to squat and urinate while smoking a peace pipe
Has Adam Sandler ever made something that wasn't in bad taste?
Adam Sandler and his friends in crime are the definition of societal cancer in America.
Adam Sandler is of course well known for his sophisticated and thoughtful comedies.
We all know about such Emmy-award winning films starring him like "Jack and Jill" and "That's My Boy", which are also both in themselves timeless classics.
I sometimes wonder if Happy Madison Productions is some kind of embezzlement scheme, or worse. I would not put it past Adam Sandler to be doing quite a bit of dishonest business.
It's just an excuse for Sandler & Co to make money AND go on vacation. Look at all dem scenic spots.
Has Adam Sandler ever made something that wasn't in bad taste?
The Wedding Singer, Punch-Drunk Love, and Reign Over Me, just to name a few. Or were you talking movies that he wrote?
I sometimes wonder if Happy Madison Productions is some kind of embezzlement scheme, or worse.
"The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. This just sounds like a Native American version of Blazing Saddles
This just sounds like a Native American version of Blazing Saddles
Except Blazing Saddles was actually funny.
He's working on another movie? I thought he was busy with that videogame abomination thing.
"The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of -- but in on -- the joke."
Adam Sandler is, of course, well known for his nuanced and ground-breaking satire.
it's ok guys, they're only satirizing racism
How the fuck can they satirize something if they blatantly don't genuinely love it. Part of the genius of satirical comedy is extreme understanding of the source material.
it's ok guys, they're only satirizing racism
it's sad how much this can put a bad light on what satire actually is there is a huge difference between satire and Adam's jokes, and that's Adam's jokes aren't actually satire.
How the fuck can they satirize something if they blatantly don't genuinely love it.
By using Juvinalian satire and not Horatian?
At least there's no cross dressing in this one. Maybe.
Hahaha it was so unfunny the actors literally walked away.
Has Adam Sandler ever made something that wasn't in bad taste?
Hotel Transylvania.
Another mention for Red Letter Media I imagine.
I hope adam sandler dies
Hotel Transylvania.
It's funny how everyone's listing things that weren't even made by him
As a person that is part Native American, I gotta say that script sounds really awful and not uncommon for the shit that Sandler churns out.
Glad they walked off, shouldn't have to put up with shit like that in today's day and age. Recently watched an EXCELLENT documentary called "Reel Injun: On the Trail of the Hollywood Indian" by Neil Diamond (not the singer) who is a member of the Cree tribe. An excellent look at Native American representation through cinematic history. Only in about the last 25 years or so were great strides actually made; Sandler of course will shit on anything.
