A grand jury in Ontario County, N.Y., decided not to file criminal charges against the Nascar champion Tony Stewart for the Aug. 9 crash that killed driver Kevin Ward Jr.
The grand jury heard testimony this week on the accident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, where Stewart’s racecar hit and killed Ward during a sprint car race. District attorney Michael Tantillo said more than two dozen witnesses testified, including two accident reconstruction specialists. The grand jury also reviewed a number of photographs and video recordings.
[...]
Ward, 20, from Port Leyden, N.Y., who had been rookie of the year in the Empire Super Sprint series earlier in his career, exited his racecar and walked onto the track to confront Stewart. As Stewart drove past, his car appeared to fishtail and hit Ward, throwing him several feet. Ward was declared dead at a hospital shortly after the accident.
Tantillo said Wednesday that a toxicology report on Ward revealed that he had marijuana in his system at the time of the accident.

It is not known yet if Stewart will face a civil suit in Ward’s death.
So ward just walked out onto the fucking racetrack to confront a guy who was actively racing on said track?
the fuck

u fucking wot m8
Kinda asking for it, imo. Walking out onto the track during a race/while someone's racing on said track?
good. I'm so sorry that tony chose to retire though. He was a bit of a dick sometimes but a damn good driver nonetheless.
I didn't expect any charges would go through. Smoke is a good guy at heart and is obviously emotionally scarred by this.

Where did you hear that? Only source I can find on that is Empire News which just spews out fake news stories.

Would also like to know. I know he sat out on a few races but he has been racing back in the #14 recently.

Yes. I remember the video. It's ridiculous to think of bringing him up on charges, it was such a ludicrously dangerous thing to do. He walks right in the middle of the goddamn track with cars speeding by.
Things not to do on a speedy race track with speedy things speeding around:
1.get out of your speedy thing

I'm no racing expert by any means (meaning I don't watch racing at all), but the car just before his is driving much slower and lower. Not saying this guy murdered him in cold blood, but despite his retarded walk onto the track, it seems like he could've done more to prevent it.
As a nascar driver, you should know to stay away from walking on the track.. high speeds in effect, what else did you expect?
Court also said that the kid had pot in his system which affected him

What the other cars are doing is pretty much irrelevant. He's driving his car. There is the implication that they saw something that caused them to drive lower, and he ignored it. Implications aren't proof though. Where's the proof he did something wrong? It's not the fact that he hit the guy, since the guy deliberately changed position on the track in order to get closer to Stewart.

he just acts like a dick, he's got kind of a napoleon complex going on.

the problem is these cars are not really controllable and the drivers themselves have very little visibility
I'm glad to see he won't be charged seeing as how Ward was a dumbass for walking out onto the tracking during a race. What the hell did he think was going to happen, Tony get out of his car and then both of them be at risk of getting hit?
And I love how they throw the fact that Ward was under the influence of marijuana as if it makes you into a raging psychopath with poor judgement. Poor judgement maybe, but that's inconclusive as many people have poor judgement before they take any drugs.

He could have, which was why it went to grand jury in the first place, but you can just as easily see that if you have an issue with conduct, you take it up after the race, if you have a grievance, it will almost always have been filmed on several cameras to document.
Stewart could have attempted more to do in the time he had, but none of that alleviates Ward from storming onto a track in-race. You never ever enter the track while a car is on, them little lights on the side of track are a certain color for a reason, and that reason is to keep you alive.

It's true, i'm on the weed right now and I cant stop beating the shit out of my wife!!!!

I meant about the retiring bit :v:
haha right because having weed in his system obviously would have no effect whatsoever on his decision making process??? Totally irrelevant guys! Sheesh the media and their weed needles brah.
You guys seem to be forgetting that Marijuana is still a recreational drug and gets put in the same category as a bunch of other stuff because of it. Granted, it's nowhere near as harmful as other drugs but at the end of the day it's something that has been looked at as a harmful drug for a very long time, and is just recently starting to get a second look. It's going to be a while before it's looked at differently so it shouldn't be surprising that they're looking at it the way they are now.
Assuming it was just in his system and he was no longer under its effects, I wouldn't be surprised if it were looked at as "okay, he's smoked weed recently, maybe it has been having effects on his judgement." It isn't like they found out about it and forgot about everything else and put everything on the kid.
Found the pot heads. It just as fun as find the vegan.

I'm not saying he straight up tried to murder the dude, but maybe he wanted to scare him a bit and he just didn't expect him to actually move towards his car in that way? I'm just saying it seems kinda reckless when the car in front of him clearly slowed down - might've been for a reason.

doing this is still funny?
I smoke but I still know this guy was retarded, why the fuck would you try to drive in excess of 150mph high
glad Stewart didn't get screwed due to this guys incompetence, but it's strange that Ward didn't realize what he was doing since he was a racer

And I'm just saying you're making assumptions with no evidence to support them. He wanted to scare Ward? And what evidence of that do you have? He saw Ward on the track? And what evidence of what he saw and when he saw it do you have?
the guy got eliminated from the race, his anger probably overtook his rational decision making. Calling him a retard isn't quite fair. When you're heated you do stupid things.
What a series of genius decisions, better go get high before a race and then try and fight someone who's still in theirs after I'm out of the race.
