That just seems like The Witcher to me. It's always been like this.

Why? Because they are actually offering criticism of something? This is one of their better articles in a while, and all the criticism is valid (Well, apart from maybe their stab at the brothels). But even they acknowledge that these criticisms are very minor. Indeed, the most major one there to my mind is their stab at the writing, which does sound slightly concerning (The Godling's dialogue, not Geralt, as I imagine the schizophrenia shown there was simply down to the choices of the players)
Sounds like the person who wrote this has never played a witcher game before.
I'm pretty sure the game is going to get an enhanced/improved edition in a year or two anyway, so if you're not sure with the game and suspect it'll have deal-breaking flaws then wait it out and get the second version that's bound to come out.

That's the entire point, this is one of their less shit articles and the last one before that was the comdex Intel one. RPS is pretty much the equivalent of the page 3 rag in digital form anymore. They have completely thrown any kind of objectivity out the window and rely solely on clickbait topics for existence.
They need to go away.
How come people had so much trouble with the combat in witcher 2? It was very easy to learn the basics but you had to figure out your own play style

Factual and good reporting they've had today: Reporting on RON's re-release, Spintires release, Nordic using the THQ brand, SUPERHOT's kickstarter success, and a variety of other WITs and looks at WIP projects.
Like, I get the dislike for their SJW stance, but if you're going to diss them, actually act like you read them, because they report on stuff just as much as any other gaming site, and at least 40% of their articles aren't Minecraft updates unlike a certain other denizen of the News Node.

Reviews are by nature subjective because they rely on personal taste, you'll also be hard pressed to find true objectivity from any journalism. The "objective" verdict on something like a videogame is only the combined opinion of the majority.
edit: The definition of objective is just sometimes simplified to "what I agree with". As if there was no place for argument.
I've always kinda felt like the witcher was designed to have relatively straightforward combat with an emphasis on using the right tools for the job. The right potion at the right time to make things easier, but unless you plan ahead and recognize what you are likely to encounter, you aren't likely going to be equipped properly for it.

Especially on the higher difficulty levels where drowners will mob and kill you if you don't have necrophage oil.
Basically as a general rule you will lose any fight that you haven't prepared or planned for.

My problem with it isn't that it's hard, it's that it's super simple and boring. I loved the combat in the first witcher since you had to time the attacks to build up a combo which would do more and more damage, while in the witcher 2 the combat just feels flat and simple.
By the time I got to Act III I just couldn't bring myself to play it anymore because of the combat.

if you cant press x to win apparently the combat system is broken
Seriously, I know a couple of people irl who said that Witcher 2's combat was very clunky and they said it should be more like Dragon Age 2's combat. Fucking idiots.

I'm the opposite. I couldn't bring myself to complete The Witcher 1. It just felt way too clunky and it really annoyed me way too much, I probably missed out on a great story line and lore, but I just couldn't for the life of me keep playing. Witcher 2's was nice and streamlined, but not overly simplified. I felt that they definitely made an improvement with the combat but also dumbed it down at the same time, hopefully TW3 is yet another improvement, just without the further dumbing down.

The Flare Path is an okay column, that's about it. Really sick of overly politicized gaming news.
Every time there's a bad article, I see people arguing that the source needs to be removed from FP, because all their articles are shit or something close.
If all their articles were really that bad, we'd be having that discussion in all of their articles, or nearly. And that is not the case, even if there sometimes are sprees of controversial writings.
