Man this whole different DirectX server thing is messed up. I might get it if it's $19.99 on sale. Unless it's a timed price or something.
Does it finally look like it was advertised at E3? No? Then I'm not going to buy it.
Does it contain all DLC ?
This is such a scummy move. I don't have the DLC, but if I were to have it I'd effectively be paying 19.99 for a -update- to the game. And the first one didn't even look as advertised, it was obviously dumbed down graphically. Way to go devs!
I've paid for the game at full price, bought all the DLCs, and you expect me to pay for an update? Just no.
Even worse since this just could've been in the game since release on PC, which we also got delayed for like 3 months. What the fuck.
The fact that they are splitting this up like they are reeks of squeezing out every single coin possible. It's fine if they want to charge for an update as long as it's substantial but if they cared at all about their customers they would charge the same low price for all versions. It's also utterly ridiculous and playing on their customers lack of knowledge to create a separate buzzword Dx11 version and then charge more for it. While they might make a few bucks off this short term I really hope it hurts them long term as well it should, because this is not the kind of treatment your customer base deserves.
so does this count as a new game or what? because im softbanned on ds2
This is probably gonna split up the PvP player base too which is pretty dumb
my 6870 is now considered a minimum requirement for games what is this
The upgrade is only 5$ above the season pass, so if you don't own the DLC for the original game this is a good occasion to get into them (which is my situation).
Otherwise this isn't worth it. Besides if you've already finished the DLC then you've pretty much finished the entire game and the few additional content (new NPCs, fixed descriptions) will normally be patched in your current version anyway.
Important thing to also keep in mind is that the PC version of Scholar is an afterthought. This edition solely exists to bring Dark Souls 2 to the ONE/PS4, the 360/PS3/PC versions are here for additional profit and because people would complain if they weren't there - if you don't own a PS4 or a ONE and if you've already played the game, then you are not the target demographic for this re-release.
The update shouldn't cost 20 dollars for people who already own the previous game + dlc though. 7/10 bucks would be more fair.

What is the difference between Dark Souls II, along with all of the Lost Crowns DLC and Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin?
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is a “Director’s Cut” of all Dark Souls II content that includes additional features. Content from all DLC packs is included along with the original game. The DirectX11, Xbox One, and PS4 versions of the game will also include:
-New enemy placement, map shortcuts, and gameplay design.
-Graphics, sound, and performance upgrade.
-New weapons and armor for players to experiment with.
-New NPC invading player’s world.
-Max online players up from 4 to 6.
-It is a fresh new experience that even grizzled veterans will find surprising and challenging!
What about the other content that I heard about? Additional Story NPC and elements, new item descriptions, improved online matching, improved game mechanic balance, etc.?
That content has already been made available via a free update to all current Dark Souls II owners in February. Visit Facebook.com/DarkSouls to read the full list of improvements!

Is the durability 60fps bug still in? According to the facebook page, the durability of weapons is still comparable to fighting with wet cardboards, and most of the players have been complaining about this for ages, and still no fix. I don't think I'll be getting this ""director's cut"", and what's the fucking business with different prices for different directx versions? Is this some kind of a scam?
Seems like From is a little out of touch, which is sad because the Souls games are pretty damn good. Hopefully they'll take the backlash into account and make this more palatable.

I choose to blame Namco.
Is there some kind of a graphics comparison between two versions?
I choose to blame Namco.
I guess it is Namco, since From made a good effort on the Dark Souls 2 patch (excepting the 60FPS durability bug) and I'm sure that wasn't marked up.
I would totally pay the 30$ for the upgrade

no thanks.
I really find it weird to charge more or less based on DirectX engine version. Hell, it's weird they even split the two up in the first place when games for years and year now have had engines capable of running on the 2 or more DirectX versions.
As has been said, I hope that this doesn't split the playerbase too much (even though honestly it shouldn't at all), and also that the price gets knocked down, at least for owners of the original game/DS2 and DLC. This entire move is baffling and with little explanation, I can only assume the worst.
Why don't they just sell a single version of Scholar of the First Sin? People with dx9 could get confused and buy the other one and viceversa. Also it's lame making the DX11 version be more expensive.
This upgrade better be absolutely amazing and fix everything about the game's design, or this is a total rip.
500+ hours in for me even a huge upgrade would be a waste of money
Maybe I'll buy it some day to play with my boyo but atm, fuck no

That's actually pretty good. I'll buy this for the DLC, the graphics upgrade won't hurt either.
Hope the new enemy placements are too obnoxious though, that ironclad enemy right before the bonfire looks like he'll be annoying

I believe they also made it so some enemies are actually moving around instead of just standing around waiting. Similar to Bloodborne.
Honestly, the whole debacle with prices and stuff for it is probably because they spent enough money making the changes that they can't really justify giving it out for free, even though the changes aren't significant enough that most people could justify actually buying it.

They could've made it not $20 for an upgrade, as well as not split up DirectX versions.
I mean even when Deus Ex: HR did this it was a meager $5.

I think that $20 to upgrade for people who supported the original release as much as they did (by buying the game and likely season pass) is a little insulting. I'm sure the game looks better, maybe plays better due to the changes, but they've already thrown that money down and likely spent enough time that running through a slightly changed (albeit unchanged) game is not worth that much money. Even $10 might be cutting it close for a lot of people.
Holy fuck, this is just a colossal mistake.
