The man eventually apologised, explained his gun was a replica and left the shop in Broward County. "She was able to remain calm and keep him calm," a sheriff's office spokeswoman said. During the incident on 23 July, Ms Goncalves told the would-be robber: "I'm just going to talk with you about Jesus." The man said he was a Christian and was "embarrassed" to be doing what he was doing but that he needed $300 (£190) to avoid being evicted. The shop manager told him: "I don't know what you're going through, but all of us are going through a hard time right now." When she explained that she would have to make up any shortfall, he decided to leave. Ms Goncalves told the BBC she had been inspired by God and that she hoped the man would turn to the church. "He didn't look that bad. He didn't look like a criminal. It made me a bit more confident about what I wanted to tell him. "It touched me. I could never be able to think I could to talk or preach to someone with a gun. "I just felt like hugging him and saying please don't do this." Veda Coleman-Wright, of Broward County sheriff's office, said she had never seen anything like it in her 14 years on the job. The man is being sought for attempted armed robbery, she added.
Video available in article Whatever your views on religion (I know this will turn into a religion thread) what she did and how calm she acted is pretty amazing.
Oh snap.
Religion ruins everything, as this woman clearly demonstrates EDIT: wow you people are not too bright
Damn, religion really fucked his plans up. How is religion still accepted nowadays? Edit: Are you people dense or what?
now he's going to be evicted because RELIGION ruined him down with the $y$tem
"Okay, okay! I don't want any trouble! Take the money!" [Speech 100%] "I'm just going to talk with you about Jesus." "Try and take it, asshole" +25xp

the power of christ compels you.
Usually the robbers, in times like these, are just really, really desperate people who see it as the only way out of their trouble.
Jedi mind tricks.
Jedi mind tricks.
Thissssss
Usually the robbers, in times like these, are just really, really desperate people who see it as the only way out of their trouble.
I think you mean robbers in general all throughout history
I think you mean robbers in general all throughout history
What about bank managers?
I think you mean robbers in general all throughout history
Nah, I know a guy who robbed a few joints just for the thrill of it, and as a way to "stick it to the government." He was well off, had a girlfriend, a job, a car, his own place, was attending college at the time too.
The shop owner said they'd have to make up any money stolen, so the robber decided to leave. Religion played no part.
keywords: in general
Oh, hi, you again.
what an idiot
We can agree for once.
What I get out of this article is that people are being pushed to their limits and have no choice but to become criminals out of desperation. $300 or be homeless. As for that Jesus shit she was very lucky to find something to relate to him and calm him down.
Oh, hi, you again.
he said in general.. I'm guessing you don't know what that means or didn't see it because you said "nah" and then posted an anecdote acting as if that disproves his claim
In fact the article is not even concentrating on the big picture here, they just want to draw people in with their sensationalist bullshit, bringing up religion to get people arguing.

A very touching story! But what exacly brings a man to do something like this, while knowing it is wrong?
A very touching story! But what exacly brings a man to do something like this, while knowing it is wrong?
Maybe he desperately needed the money so that he wasn't evicted just a guess
That's right. It's a conspiracy to piss you off.
Oh yeah of course it doesn't matter that a man was desperate and tried to rob a store just to pay some rent, or that the lady was able to calm him down and get him to stop, oh no, it was the fact that she calmed him down with Jesus. That's what the media needs to latch onto, the most trivial part of this whole story?
Maybe he desperately needed the money so that he wasn't evicted just a guess
I know that, I read it. What did he need the money for? [editline]10:27PM[/editline]
Oh yeah of course it doesn't matter that a man was desperate and tried to rob a store just to pay some rent, or that the lady was able to calm him down and get him to stop, oh no, it was the fact that she calmed him down with Jesus.
I don't think it's because it was Jesus, I think it was because she managed to calm him down and get him to stop. I don't think it happens that often.
"Wololoo!"
Jesi mind tricks.
:smug:
I know that, I read it. What did he need the money for?
Prevention of eviction.
Religion can come in handy in controlling people like this.
