So basically, you can pay for lootcrates to get the base cards, but all the high-tier stuff / stronger versions are unlocked by playing ingame missions. Minus the part where you get crafting stuff for getting duplicate cards which can be used to upgrade what you already got. But who knows how much actual money that would take.
Sounds like the same system is going to be in the full game, except some of the RNG in crates is locked behind your level. I'm glad there's cosmetics but star cards should just not be in crates at all. Side grades maybe, upgrades no
Most of the star cards are just alternate versions of existing skills, which are / were pretty strong to begin with. Maybe it has a little less cooldown, maybe it's a stronger hitting version but now you can't move, etc.
