So I went to the dump today and I found this old computer sitting there. so I look at it and it has a pentium II. I took it home and saw that all it was missing was some ram and a hard drive. I got some extra ram and a hard drive out of my other old computer and it booted up and after installing windows 98 was up and running. now I was thinking about just using it to play old games but I was also wondering if there would be some better use.
here are the specs if your interested:
Pentium II 350
64MB of ram
ATI rage pro turbo
some old 16-bit creative sound card
40GB hdd
Better use would be to send all the shit to me.
host an unreal gold server.
get 2000 or preferably xp on it. it should handle basic home NAS and simpler game servers in the likes of cs 1.6
Host Porn
I think we had a facepunch porn server once apon a blue moon

I would do that if I had good up speed on my internet. I also tried putting xp on it but it froze at starting windows in the install. But I do have a copy of freenas around so that would be something I do with it when I find a place to stick it.

Maybe a 4 man CS 1.6 server, and it have a hard time doing even that.
recycle it
use it for Folding@home
Turn it into a work of art, symbolising the pathetic inevitability of human existence.
Smash it with a sledge hammer. It's time on earth is finished.
RIP Pentium II.

That would be a fucking waste.

i'm fairly confident it could run a 12 or 16 man server. it takes almost nothing to run old servers like that.
Install Windows ME, and see how long you can keep it stable. My current record is 2 weeks.

Would be fun to see how long it would take to complete 1 packet.

Better than my install of 98 on a vm that only lasted 6 hours.
A tfc server would not be a bad idea if I can get it to work.
Lucky you.
NAS if it can't host a small 1.6 server.
Was this a garbage dumb? If so i will start diggin' I love finding free stuff.

No this was the electronic section which is the smart part of the dump in my opinion. also I got the hard drive out of my old computer that didn't have a cable for it.

and have it endlessly play under the sea. but alas, our last fish tank got thrown away when all our fish died again.
Also that workstation looks bad ass.

My brother still uses that exact keyboard
Throw some larger hard drives into it and install FreeNAS.
Install some emulators on it and pick up a gamepad for some sort of emulation machine.

I used to host a TFC server on a dual PIII 550 with 512M of RAM, and it had severe problems when it hit the 6-8 player mark. The CPU usage was up in the 70-80% range and the latencies were awful. You could have 16 players on that weak CPU, but the lag would be so bad that all you'd likely see are people teleporting all over the map.
Dedicated Doom 95 machine.
So i decided on using it for nas. but i have this old athalon running @ 1.2ghz and 384MB of ram and i was wondering if that could run a small tf2 server on that.
Why are people so interested in garbage?
Why are people so interested in garbage?
So I guess that means no one should be the least bit interested in you.
:downs:
Really, don't say that kinda shit here. It's stupid. Being Hitler of old computers. They still have their nostalgic uses, they're not "garbage."
In fact I'd love to have an old IBM PS/1 (I think?) to play with.

Maybe like 4-6 players tops.
