Misty-eyed fans can forget about digging out their Team GB shirts, the army of 2012 volunteers can leave their distinctive purple uniforms in the wardrobe, and Boris Johnson can stand down.
Much to the disappointment of those hoping for an action replay of the heady summer of 2012, the International Olympic Committee has rejected as "totally unfeasible" claims that London could step in for troubled Rio to host the 2016 Olympics.
A report in the London Evening Standard has claimed that the capital had been secretly sounded out as a last-ditch replacement for Rio, whose preparations were damned as the "worst ever" by an IOC vice-president last month.
But the suggestion was immediately knocked down by the IOC in the strongest terms.
"This is simply a non-starter – totally without foundation and totally unfeasible. Not a shred of truth," said a spokeswoman. Another IOC source said the story was "total rubbish".
...
There are various practical things preventing London stepping in to host the Games, as it did previously in 1908 when Mount Vesuvius erupted, forcing the Games to be relocated from Italy at short notice. Not only is the stadium in the midst of a £200m reconstruction to prepare it for its new tenants, West Ham, but residents have begun to move into the complex of 2,800 flats that the athletes' village has been converted into.
Meanwhile, the "wings" that housed 15,000 spectators during the Games have been removed from Zaha Hadid's Aquatics Centre and the temporary venues around the Olympic Park have been demolished to make way for housing and play areas.
Ah, damn.
I know its unfeasible, its just that a move like this would take all the confidence the population has on the current government away, and would open up way to replacing most of the current politicians, which is what this damn country needs.
An actual right-wing government could change some things, though
They could get those trains to run on time for once! >:(
I knew this will happen all the IOC care's about is the image( aka money =/= image) and going to a different place ( not going to same place for 15 year's plus+.)
Looks like London didn't bribe them enough.
I don't know what would be more hilarious to watch
London rushing and failing horribly at prepping for a 2016 Olympics (anyone remember the headlines from 2012?)
Or waiting to see all the pictures of shoddy and terrible construction and preparation Brazil does
This is pretty much all the enjoyment I get out of the Olympics these days
they should host in north korea, they practically have all the infrastructure already and they have never hosted before
>totally 'rubbish'
>rubbish = english slang for 'garbage'
british propaganda, wake up sheeple

Boris spent all the bribe money on child maintenance.
what's up with all Olympic venues rushing/being unprepared as of late?
what's up with all Olympic venues rushing/being unprepared as of late?
As of late? It's pretty much tradition at this point.
Why...why don't we just host it here as a yearly thing ;_;
Well good, the world should stop throwing its sporting events at us. The Tour De Fucking France is coming through my town and I am on a completely seperate landmass to France. There is a fucking sea in the way and that doesn't stop them.

Concrete road barricades might though.

French imperialism will know no bounds.
He used total 3 times...

Anagram for LOTTO...
He's saying it's a LOTTO that the games will be held in London! Conspiracy!
I wouldn't be too fussed if it was hosted in London again, we've got the venues all we need is the man power, a kick-arse opining ceremony, an underwelming closing cerimoney and some dosh!

I'm pretty sure that garbage is English slang for rubbish, not the other way round. More on topic however, I don't think most people would want a second Olympics running, it put a lot of strain on the infrastructures, plus I think the opening ceremony wouldn't be as good the second time round and so you would loose the feel of the thing.

hardly anyone in the UK uses the word garbage
hardly anyone in the UK uses the word garbage
I never said they did. The americans use it, I said English not as a denonym but as in the language.
i've seen backpedalling before but that's a new low
You can just renege on a massive project, simply because they are behind schedule.
I was fairly certain the rumours were bullshit.
Once again, only have your required daily sodium intake from the horses mouth.
Some people use garbage in the northern areas of the UK.

Says the American.
"Rubbish" isn't slang. It's like saying "garbage" is slang in America.

He's british, read the 48 point font title under his name.
If they were to move the Olympics, I guess it is easier to just movie it to the previous host. Rio still has over 2 years to go. They're way behind, but the IOC can't let it fail.

I spend $5 on a title and you still don't fucking read it.
Actually I believe the proper British word for "garbage" is "the old clumpy, lumpy bag-and-dumpy"

We, at least around where I are, say "trash" :v:
